FishN4EyesGreg,
Fantastic report and some really amazing photos.
I've got to do a moose hunt one of these days...
Looks like a really fun hunt and congrats to Sean as well.
The bear excitement I could do without but it's all part of the experience.

Thanks, it was a heck of a trip!
We felt very much the same regarding the bear. We both agreed we could have done without it, but it definitely added another level of excitement that we'll never forget!

Are you doing more exploration hunts in ak? I'd like to do that. Any chances that you take someone with?
Cheers
Dennis
Dennis,
Judging by your name, I assume you are an American. If not, you are out of luck on a DIY hunt - you can't hunt as a non-resident in AK without a guide.

twilliGreg drew a tag in DM 875 unit 23 is that where you were hunting? Would like to chat with you either way as we are booked with Joe to fly us in.

Thanks Mario, I actually just used an entry level SLR on this trip with a 55-200 mm lens. The camera was the Nikon D3000, they've since upgraded it to the D3100 but you can pick one up for under $500 with a decent lens on eBay.
Cheers,
Greg

Greg,
great story that you wrote in the last sport afield.
i knew i read it before ...
Philippe.
ps did you get the skin at the auction?

gryphon1That tale is one of the best written and most enjoyable that I have had the pleasure to read on AR,I didnt draw breath whilst doing so and it was a real delight to read especially after viewing so many of 'those' hunts posted online that are about as wild as a cow in a barn.
Great report, great bulls and bear and a grand adventure all round.

Philippe,
My hunting partner, Sean, went up and purchased the skin the following March at the fur auction and has it mounted. It looks great, and I'm glad he was able to get it.

Thanks Andrew, fortunately I get to return to this area for Caribou this September (3 years since my moose hunt). I'll hopefully get to write another long report after I get home.

EddieWalkerJust read this and really enjoyed it. I talked to Joe recently and he said that his drop camps where $8,000 each, but that he didn't have any black bear in the area. I really want a moose and my wife wants a black bear.

There are black bear, but not in numbers I could recommend a hunt specifically for them there. We shot one this year when I went back and saw several more, but that was out of the ordinary.
