Dall Sheep in the Brooks Range with Mike McCann
Outfitter: Mike McCann

Guide: Tim Nelson

Booking Agent: Kirk Kelso, Cabela's Outdoor Adventures

Location: Brooks Range

Dates: August 10 - 19

Rifle/Optics: NULA .270 Wby w/ Swarovski Z5 3.5-18, 140 grains TSX handload

Had a great trip in the Brooks Range and took my first Dall sheep, an 11 year old Ram. The outfitter ran a great operation and I was very happy with my guide. The weather kept shifting between perfect and completely fogged in. Over the first few days, we glassed well over 100 sheep, including one band of 25 rams. I took my ram on day 4 after a 4.5 hour climb and stalk. Everything on this hunt went very well, I highly recommend the outfitter, he manages his area very well and runs a tight ship.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

That sheep meat is damn good. We ate a good chunk of that animal before I left camp. I brought the rest home, and it's almost gone in less than a month!
