I have one spot open for an Aoudad Sheep hunt in the corner of the Texas panhandle. It is a private ranch 1000 rugged acres partially high fenced, the remaining fence was left to nature about 8 years ago. In other words, nothing is stopping the movement of Aoudad in and out of the ranch. The terrain is Juniper covered canyons, bluffs and mesquite flats over looking a small river. It's home to healthy population of Aoudad Sheep, a small number of Red Deer, wild hogs Whitetail and Mule deer. Myself and friends have hunted this ranch numerous times and I have taken some fine trophies however it took me 3 trips to take an Aoudad. I saw good rams each trip but was hunting other game or on one occasion I missed an easy 200 yard shot due to having scope problems. We spent over an hour watching this ram while he was bedded only to miss him when he stood up. This hunt is fairly physically demanding, you spend time glassing, walking and spot and stalk when you locate one. If stalking or physical limitations are a concern, hunting from a ridge over bait is an option. This is a hunt for one mature Aoudad ram. Ewes are available as well. Lodging is included but you must prepare your own meals in the kitchen. I will be on this hunt along with a friend, but only two people will be hunting Aoudad. Several AR members have hunted this ranch. It is located in Quanah, TX. Cost is $3,500 with a deposit of $1,000 and is to be sent to the owner. Call me for details, photo's or references. Hunt will be scheduled for February. Hey guys, this is on my ranch. I have not hunted Aoudad there in about 8 years, until recently I shot a ram. I have a story here in this forum on my hunt. I went last weekend with my nephew and we saw 47 Aoudad by the house and then anywhere from 25-40 later that day (not sure if we double counted a few). He wound up shooting a ewe at 300 yards at sunset. Being across two pretty nasty draws, it wasn't safe to retrieve the goat that day, we went the next morning and found her where he shot her. The ranch is not fully fenced (It was when David was there last). Portions have been taken down and the rest neglected to the point that Aoudad are free to come and go at any point they choose. So, it is not a fenced hunt. There are plenty of Aoudad, we have wild hogs, Coyotes Bobcats, Whitetail and Mule Deer and one Badger that is mine. Don't shoot him! There is a small herd of Red Deer that are quite reclusive and migrate between my ranch and the ranch across the river. Anyone who hunted here, feel free to chime in about the place. The second spot is filled, with a third “alternate” if someone falls through. Thanks for the messages and interest in the hunt. I’m really looking forward to hunting another Rock Donkey! They are absolutely my favorite animal to hunt in TX. | |||
