This really is a COOL opportunity! The Kafue Flats are an amazing place, and something that is totally unique to only this one place in Africa. You will see some awesome scenery, and literally thousands of Kafue Lechwe. I hunted them several years ago with Richard/Andrew, its something I will never forget.

If you can go, do it, you won't regret it.

Still a bit pricey for one animal, but the experience will hopefully compensate for that.

Very few places on earth where you can see the curvature of the earth, thousands of Lechwe and the most incredible star light at night.

The Flats is quite surreal.

Have suggested we move on to Luangwa and split a hunt there?

Bow hunting is allowed and suggest rather you bring it along just in case the opportunity arises. Could set up a blind in a high density area and supply you with a radio etc?

I have to buy the license so it would cost you the tag even if you did not succeed.

SilentT - With persistence you WILL get a crack or two at a Lechwe with your bow. Do the best you can to shoot accurately out to 60 yards, it will happen.

My other PH is a bow hunter and has won competition in Europe. Best time would be first or last light and to stalk through the grass. However my reservation is that I have others to attend to.

Note the top photo and this Lechwe was taken at last light at about 80 yards.

I've hunted the Flats, I've hunted with Andrew as well. This is a trip that CANNOT be passed on.

There is no other Kafue Lechwe, anywhere on the planet (save game farms)

If you are even remotely considering it, GO!!!

Look at a post made by fairgame (e.g. scroll up a bit in this thread). Click on fairgame's username in the top left corner of the post. A drop-down menu will appear, select menu item "Invite fairgame to a Private Topic". That will put you onto the same screen you use to make regular AR posts. Except, this time you'll be posting a "PM" to fairgame...

Diego,

Cross over the border at Vic Falls and there are daily flights from Livingstone.

We don't rent guns but can lend you one.

What dates suit you around the fourth? If you are early you can always bed down at my place? If we go in on the fourth then we will be out on the 10 May.

Hope that answers some of your questions?

Are you interested in going onto Luangwa? Either as an observer or to hunt - splitting a plains game safari?

My email seems to be working now.

Cheers

Andrew

Chaps,

It maybe such that I will have to conduct two safaris.

Tentative dates would be 4 May - 10 May and 13 May - 19 May.

If I get enough interest the Luangwa deal would have to happen after the second safari.

Deposits will reflect the Lechwe trophy fee. The balance to be paid on completion of the safari.

Mike it would seem that we keep to the original plan and do one Flats safari and then most go onto Luangwa.

Might have seven interested which makes it even more affordable.

Richard Bell Cross is keen to Join us as a PH and Andrew McLaren is coming up from RSA to give us a hand.

So yes it is coming together.

Trying to get my partners in Luangwa to part with a buffalo for this trip. Will have to draw straws for that one.

Please contact .505 Gibbs who is acting team leader. I will forward further details of deposits and contracts to him for distribution.

Sorry, Andrew, this has me slightly confused??? (Bear with me, happens regularly... Smiler ).

Are you saying that the current planning calls for just a single Kafue Flats hunt (04-10 May - total of seven participants). After that some or all of this group go to Luangwa (11-17 May)??

No second hunting group planned for Kafue (not enough participants?)??

If this is what you are saying, I have no prob with this, I just need to be 100% sure (before I start booking flights...). If yes, perhaps you could update your starter post in this thread to mirror the current schedule planning, please?

Sounds good. More and more excitement added to the trip. I'll get in touch with 505Gibbs as soon as we have the schedule nailed down.

Mike,

Yes correct.

I am having to now offer only one Kafue Lechwe trip in May. This is due to logistics and the Luangwa option has somewhat complicated things.

I could plan another Flats trip later on in the year if there is demand? It could become an annual event?

Those who want to go onto Luangwa will have to be given preference.

With the extra help from Richard Bell Cross and our own Andrew McLaren from RSA I can now do seven quite easily.

Hope this answers your questions and will adjust the top page accordingly.

Andrew

Roger that Andrew, and thanks for your patience. You are doing a *great* job at organizing, keep up the good work!

OK, here is another couple of questions to test your patience... Wink

The current schedule is

Kafue Flats safari. 4 May - 10 May.
Luangwa safari. 12 May - 18 May.

I assume you had a good reason to not start the Luangwa hunt before 12-May-2011 (e.g as opposed to the 11-May-2011)?? The 12-May-2011 schedule calls for a day spent in Lusaka.

On 04-May-2011 (tranfer day Lusaka - Kafue), what is the latest people should schedule to arrive in Lusaka?? If no flights into Lusaka before this point, an overnight (03-04 May) stay must be planned in Lusaka.

In the same vein: on the 18-May-2011 (transfer Munyamadzi - Lusaka), from what time can we realistically book flights out of Lusaka??

Thanks for your help in advance.

- mike

Good questions Mike and you can see why I had to forgo the second Flats safari.

We are looking at 14 days in Zambia to hunt both destinations. Proposed 4 May - 18 May. It will be up to the team to juggle the dates back or forth to suit flight schedules. I recommend coming in the day before and leaving the day after.

To save on hotel accommodation I can set up camp in my lounge and garden if need be.

Well done. I am trying to see how to push it with those dates. I would rather prefer to start the 2 nd of may but the group rules. I cannot stay for the second part of luangwa.
where should I fly from Livingstone? I may even fly in into Kafue if neccesary¿? where should I expect to come out so I can get back to Johansberg and from there back to Spain.
Thanks for all the effort you are putting into this trip Big Grin
