Well friends, it appears Idaho is setting its Wolf season. They have reduced the Wolf tag to $31.75 and each hunter may buy two tags. Your non-res license will cost you $154.75. We are offering Wolf hunts for $500! That's right, for $500 you can stay in our camp for 8-10 days (your choice) and try for two Wolves. We will be using electronic callers and other legal means to reduce this dramatic problem and yes, my Outfitter has a pack in their unit. Last night their 5 year old Mule became another victim, and last week a 3 day mountain ride with the commish yielded Moose cows with no calves. This is not normal for the area. Also, a number of cattle calves have been killed. This includes your food, lodging and horses. Season starts August 30th and runs into March but we will stop hunts the end of October due to most likely winter snows beginning. Although this is archery season for deer/elk, you may use a rifle to hunt Wolf and or Bear. Our Bear hunts are $1,600 if you'd like to add that. Contact me ASAP if your interested. Deposits are $250, balance due upon arrival in camp. This is the same unit I'm offering the previous Elk hunts in: Unit 29. Come help Idaho trim this pack down to size.

When we were in the Frank Church area last April, we'd find Mule Deer every day that the Wolves had taken. The more Wolves that can be taken out, the better the hunting will be for typical game species like Mule and Whitetail Deer, Elk, Moose, etc.

Wendell, we do it up here in Alberta. I have not personally done it but many of my friends use a coyote howl type call to locate them and fawn in distress calls.

They say the howl calls will also call them right in. (both coyote and wolf howls)

I'm curious as to what Idaho estimates its wolf population to be. Also, is there a quota set for this season? If so, what is it? I'm curious as to what Idaho believes is a sustainable off-take.

Here in Wisconsin our wolf population has been growing fast. Years ago, after it was determined that gray wolves had set up permanent populations here, our DNR set a target population state-wide of 350. It was 800 this spring, before the pups had been born. Our DNR has been trying for years to get the wolves de-listed so that proper management can take place, but if course they've been blocked in the courts by well-meaning idiots.

When they "set a target of 350", does everyone agree on this because that seems to be the problem. If not everyone agrees, then those stake holders who disagree will stop the culling.

The problem of course is if they agree, they will change their mind when it comes time to cull them !!! Just like Greenies always do.

Wendell; The best wolf tape costs around $500 but it is what the Federal sharpshooters use. Probably why they shot 2 last year..lol. It is very effective if you know how, when & where to use it.

Fellow hunters: it was brought to my attention today that Idaho charges a State and Federal tax on hunts. 3%+6% = 9% total tax. $500 x 0.09% = $45.00 tax. I apologize for any inconvience.

We will have a dedicated "Wolf camp." You will not be mixed with our big game hunters and will be hunting prime Wolf areas. For the extreme hunter, we can ride you into deep country; sleep on the ground with bag and tarp and be amongst the werewolves all night. That gives you the chance to be up before first light and catch them bright and early. This is a guided hunt, no lone wolf hunting (pun intended). Just be sure to bring silver bullets. For those that prefer standard camping, you will stay in camp each night. Smiler We are nearing the limit on hunters, as we do not want to crowd our camp. Very few spots remain. Will keep you all posted. Thanks to all that have booked. We appreciate everyone that is coming to help reduce these apex predators. For those of you who believe in this worthy cause, find us on facebook in the Anti-Wolf America, Anti-Wolf Idaho or the Yellowstone is Dead pages.

Red, as posted above, it is in Unit 29. There is an active pack there along with a den. Due to snow concerns, the hunt will end on the last day of October. I don't want to book guys in Nov-March as they could be snowed in or have their hunt canceled. Trappers will be working then. Maybe it won't snow but don't bet on that and I've seen 11 feet in Idaho back country. Cheers, LDK

For those who were concerned that a Federal Judge would over turn the wolf hunt and keep them on the ESA list, great news! We might not have won the war, but we won this battle. The Idaho hunt goes forward.

BREAKING NEWS: Judge Molloy upholds constitutionality of wolf delisting.

(MISSOULA)- Wolves will stay off the Endangered Species List, at least for now, after U.S. District Judge upholds the constitutionality of Congressional action taking the wolves off the protected list.
Some environmental groups wanted Molloy to overturn the May decision, saying lawmakers h...ad violated the Separation of Powers Doctrine.
But in an 18-page ruling issued this afternoon, Molloy rejected the plaintiff's claims for summary judgment and backed the government's position. That leaves the question of long-term ESA protection for Idaho and Montana wolves in the hands of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

unfortunately, the Ninth Circuit is based in San Francisco, arguably the most liberal city and most liberal court in America. those bastards have never met an anti hunting, anti gun measure/law suit they didn't approve of. i really hope this works out for all parties here and i wish i had the time off, but if it is in the hands of the Ninth Circuit- LOOK OUT1

Probably by the time they get around to it, the season will be over. I think Idaho intends to do what they said they would do; reduce the wolf clan. BTW, I've had several ask me about our deer hunts. You can add the fully guided deer hunt for $2,800 and your tag is OTC and good for either Whitetail or Mule deer. I can attest to Idaho having monster whitetails, many with non typical racks. My buddy tripped over a 16 pt skull the last time we were there bear hunting. Idaho is a sleeper for huge bucks. Add a Bear hunt for $1,600 and I'd say 80% of what you'll see are color bears of all descriptions. Baiting or spot and stalk. Good cougar country too, and you can sub a cougar if you see one. Bleating cow calf and fawn bleats bring in the Toms. LDK

FYI, The Idaho G&F has fixed their web site so you can now purchase both wolf tags online. So for those who could only buy one the last few days, you can now re-visit their site and buy your second tag. Also, the Outfitter just informed me that Coyotes are free and we will target them as well as the wolves. Again, I would advise all of you that have booked, consider the bears. We have good numbers in this area. Hunt over bait, spot and stalk or as targets of opportunity. The bear hunt is $1,600 and is very reasonalble considering probably 80% of what you will see are color phase bears. On the same tag, if we call in a Cougar, you can take it instead of a bear. Tag is $186, trophy fee is $500 and they have big toms in the Salmon-Challis NF. In other words, you can take a bear for $1,600; or a cougar for $1,600 hunt fee + $500 trophy fee. With this deal, no cat, no fee. We normally get $4,000 on our 8 day cougar hunt with hounds. Thanks to all who have chosen to come up and help us tackle this wolf problem.

So what happens when one of or hunters kills a wet female cougar coming in to the call? Does your guide pay the fine? or the hunter.

How exactly are the guides supposed to know the cat is a tom???

On Cougar...Females are Legal, just NOT females that are toting cubs along. Same way with Bear. Idaho Rule states on Page 61: Kittens, Female With Young: Neither spotted mountain lion young nor female mountain lions accompanied by spotted young may be taken. So...As long as she doesn't have Kittens present she would be Legal. As you know Hillbilly, the mature males have big large, thick necks with blocky heads, usually with scars on them. My Oufitter will make their guides wait UNTIL they can check out the animal first. Don't care if it walks away. Better than shooting a possible illegal animal. Something that all responsible guides should adhere to.

It appears we have a few that have decided to hunt big game instead of Wolve's only, so, that opens a few spots in wolf camp during October. Also, we are looking at a new ranch that hasn't been hunted in many years. Scouting will tell me more in a few days but we may be on to some very good deer hunting, and it appears I will have some cow elk available, OTC, no draw, archery or rifle. Give me a couple of days to sort this out and I'll post all details. Thanks, David

Hey David,

PM me the info on the new place, if it has deer as well as the wolf. I'd jump on a cow tag, but Texas is a long way to haul meat Smiler .

Will send PM in a few, thanks. Currently, we have obtained 5 cow elk permits on a private ranch. Elk (around 200) are invading a ranchers prime alfalfa field so the G&F are issuing 5 cow elk tags, maybe more to my Outfitter. Hunt will be on this private ranch overlooking the green fields. 4 day hunt, ranch lodging/food/guide included for $1,500. Perfect for a father/son/daughter, husband/wife hunt. You will need an Idaho non resident hunting license: $154.75 + ID, Elk tag + ID sales tax. I would call this a 99.9% Elk hunt if you can shoot straight :-) With the difficulty of flying with game meat, fly in hunters would need to ship their meat home via overnight express or drive into Salmon, ID. Round trip transfer from Idaho Falls $200. We have just received permission to hunt 3 private ranches that hold trophy Whitetails and Mule Deer. Details forthcoming but evidently one of them has a November rut season date. 8 day ranch hunt @ $3,800. I hope to have pics soon. Trail cams will be set over the weekend. I'm looking at going myself.

My daughter and I drew early deer tags and found an abundance of wolf tracks while hunting. Our unit wasn't in 29 but Idaho is infested with wolves. Every trail we were on had fresh wolf tracks and we could hear them howling in the early mornings. Please book a hunt and shoot some wolves.

We're not overrun in 29 but there is a new pack that moved in recently. Between the big game hunters we have and our dedicated wolf camp, we plan on doing our best to get as many as possible in our hunters possession. In fact, a number of ranchers have recently contacted the outfitter and asked them to come onto their property and work on the Wolves killing their stock. We plan on being mobile as possible to get this job done. Thanks for the update.
