My old Beats have died…thus going to upgrade.

Trying to decide whether headphones or pods and am questioning which is easier to plug into plane audio.

I am not tech inclined.

Advice appreciated!

I prefer noice canceling headphones.

Two things to bear in mind.

Your headphones must have a plane compatible plug.

Try them before you buy for fit and comfort.

I use Bose and I am very happy with them.

Tries others in the shop but they don’t fit me properly.

I prefer headphones. That said, mine are gathering dust in a drawer. International business class furnishes headphones for free, usually Bose….

Ear buds give me more ear fatigue than headphones. The other issue for me is using them on a plane is cumbersome to get sound from their screens. You're using some type of a converter to do so. The Sony headphones are top notch especially the new ones. My biggest complaint is they don't fold down to a smaller size like the previous model does. I have tried both Qatar and Delta's supplied headphones in their business class and they both were fairly poor quality. Do they work? Sure, but I'd prefer a better sound and better noise cancelation set of headphones.

I carry my iPad with me.

I download the movies and TV shows I like to watch, plus the music I like to listen to.

Also have the Kindle app with lots of books to read.

I don’t remember ever watching any movie on the plane they provide.

I've not used air pods but would never go on any flight without a set of noise cancelling headphones. I really like the sound quality of my old Sennheisers but my new Bose QC45s are just a bit lighter and more comfortable for the longer flights.

It looks like the Bose QC45s can be used both Bluetoothed and wired and there is an adapter plug to convert to double-prong plane plugs.

Anyone ever use the plug adapter and can anyone confirm the above?

I flew KLM last week and one leg had the old style 2 prong jack connection. They handed out the adapter and it worked just fine.

I've used Air Pods on long haul flights to listen to hundreds of songs that I have downloaded to my I-Phone from the Apple I-Tunes Store when I have flown. I keep the I-Phone plugged in and charged at my seat and I can walk around the cabin with the Air Pods listening to music if I wish, or just at my seat. For the most part, however, I have numerous different pairs of noise cancelling Bose that are over the ear, in the ear, etc, etc, etc. that I take with me and use. I too, would not be without noise cancelling headphones on a long haul flight, especially if it has crying children on it, let alone all of the other distractions and jet noise. Big Grin

Over-the-ear is probably best but bulky and may not be practical in other applications. The air pods are nice, and the top models have noise-canceling technology. If you pair those with something like the Twelve South Airfly adapter (which turns the headphone jack into a Bluetooth connection) you probably have the best of both worlds.

Lane,
I just bought some Sony noise cancelling over-the-ear headphones at the Denton Target for $39 on sale. They have the standard plug, two-prong airline plug and I already had an I-phone lightening to standard plug adapter.

Not Bose, but for the cost and in-frequent use for me, it seemed like a good enough deal.

The only thing I wish they had, was a sack to store them in, but a Crown Royal sack will work just fine.

Not cheap, but B&O usually tops the list. At least twice the price of Bose.

I have stored numerous items in Crown Royal sacks over the years. My wife was a head waitress at a very nice restaurant many, many, many years ago while I was in law school and she regularly brought home empty Crown Royal sacks. Big Grin

Bose headphones, love mine.

I tried ear buds and cannot stand them. Very uncomfortable.

They are expensive but worth it.

Okay, first of all, I'm increasingly deaf.

Too much shooting of high-powered rifles without hearing protection while hunting for too many years to count.

I use subtitles on everything audio/visual.

I use airline-supplied earphones when on airplanes.

They work, but only with the subtitles.

I am stubborn and don't like to spend money on needless things.

What am I missing?

I have had X-rays.

They have proven that I have a brain; however, I think the warranty has expired.

Right along with the one on my auditory nerves.

Watching movies and t.v. programs with closed caption is much more enjoyable for me now that I can understand what they are saying! tu2 In fact, it has even allowed me to figure out much about so many movies that I have repeatedly watched over and over for so many years. Big Grin It is surprising how much more you understand a movie or t.v. show when you can read the lines of the dialogue during the presentation. tu2 It certainly allows you to put two and two together in many movie or t.v. plots. Watching closed caption does, however, clearly irritate my wife and her watching t.v. or movies with me. Mad But, she did not involve herself in years of shooting without hearing protection. Another benefit of closed caption is that you don't have to have the volume on the t.v. all of the way up, which increased volume also clearly irritates those who watch a show with you and during which they are constantly telling you and/or yelling at you to turn the damn volume down because it is shaking the whole house. dancing Somtimes they just give up and send you a well known hand signal out of frustration. Eeker But, with this being said, it still doesn't irritate my wife as much as me constantly asking her to repeat to me what she has already said to me a number of times! I've narrowly escaped being bludgeoned many times over my innocent requests! rotflmo clap

Absolutely.

Deaf people unite!

First thing we should do is picket the film and TV sound engineers.

They seem to think that we like to hear actors mumble instead of speak clearly! thumbdown

B class on United has the two prong plug as well; I suspect it reduces the number of pilfered headphones.

I used the $39 Sony noise cancelling headphones on my trip the other week. Worked fine as headphones for listening to music/movies. Pretty poor for the noise cancelling. Oh well, $39, what would you expect.
