Got this in an email this morning from our South African outfitter. I do not know if it's a South African law or across the board on all airlines, but worth noting. Below is the contents of this email:


We have been advised that a new law has been passed regarding passengers who are planning to travel with firearms. The following should be noted at the time of booking flights: Many airlines are adhering to the IATA regulation which specifies that if a passenger is traveling with sporting weapons and ammunition, the airline must be advised AT THE TIME OF BOOKING by putting a message into the remarks section of the booking. More and more passengers are coming up against this non compliance and being denied boarding with sporting weapons. Some European airlines require additional information.

Nothing has changed and each airline has it's own rules that they publish on their website.

BA & a few others have for a number of years required a minimum of 72 hours notice of passengers travelling with firearms.

Unless you book with Gracy like I did in 2008 and ended up having my trip delayed for 24 hours for this exact reason.

Sorry to hear that. I used Shawn at Gracy for many years, but have used Steve at Travel With Guns more recently.
