What kind of knives are allowed to bring to tanzania?
I will go on vacation in tanzania but i won't go hunting(perhaps in the future). Is it allowed to bring a fixed knive? or only a pocked knive?

best regards

Arend

Pretty much every Masai (in traditional dress) you'll see will be carrying a bloody great simi strapped to his waist so I reckon you don't need to worry too much about what knife you take with you.

I packed 15 hunting kniwes for gifts and had no problem. Brought 3 spears back and a Masai knife as well with no problems.

Arend,

Since you are from the Netherlands, you probably know more about this than I do. However, I heard that you cannot have folding blade knives in Holland, even in baggage checked through to Africa. I don't know, but is that true?

I'm kind of wondering as I'll be going through Amsterdam again in March. Last time, folding knives in checked bags were no problem.

I've never had an issue with a knife in Africa (except the one time I forgot and left one in my pocket when going through security and they let me retrieve my checked bag and put it in --no problem. Not like the States if that happened).

Back in 2005, I gave my PH Charley Horsley a Benchmade folder. He told me they are illegal in Tanzania. I don't know, but you'd think he would, since he's a Tanzanian national.

I'd go with the PH on this one as well.

I also wouldn't take anything you don't want confiscated. We had a client bring a couple of pretty valuable knives with him in his checked luggage 2009 and had them all confiscated upon entry. Not sure if they were folding knives or not, but nevertheless they were taken from him. Last year when he went back he brought a knife and it was not a problem, but it was also a $10 knife so it makes you wonder??

Lavaca, Maybe the Netherlands problem is that Europeans have gone crazy as far as knife laws .Commonly Europeans consider a locking blade [even a little 2.5" !] to be a "combat" knife.
After the most recent German knife laws one of the internet forums shut down because there was no sense in talking about knives they couldn't buy.
