I was reading a new post over at 24hourcampfire.com/Africa regarding new regulations to take our personal firearms to another country to hunt with. There it references AfricaHunting.com and the water gets muddied by lots of information, some perhaps misunderstood and even misinformation. We leave for RSA April 17, 2015 for RSA and have our SAPS 520 permit already. We have our 4457 forms in order and all travel documents in hand. Hopefully someone will know something or has figured out if this is a new wrinkle to dealt with. I will be contacting the NRA and SCI tomorrow AM to hopefully get definitive information. I HOPE!! Besides 4457's, it seems that in April new requirements will go into force when you travel from the U.S. with firearms and ammunition. With less than 3 firearms or 1,000 rounds of ammunition, there is an export license exception, but you will now be required to file electronic export information.

There is an online chechsheet that you can take to help you determine whether an export license or an exemption applies.

Go read the thread in the African Hunting Forum. You have a rats chance of success following that ICE website.

As a practical matter, if it were my trip, I'd be inclined to pay a lawyer a few hundred dollars to figure it out and to make sure the papers are filled out correctly.

I'm a lawyer and I don't have a freakin' clue. They are making it up as they go along.

That is commendable that Steve of Travel with Guns is "taking care of it", however we as hunters and firearms owners need to do our part to voice our concern with our "politicians". Take a minute and write your political representation and voice your concerns.

Here is a link to write your politicians in Colorado. It only takes minutes to look up your state and write them to voice your dissatisfaction about this issue.
If we do nothing we eventually lose everything not just for us but for our children.
