British Airways slashes Lusaka-London fares
By ZANIS
Sun 08 May 2011, 09:10 CAT

From The PostOnline

British Airways (BA) has reduced its fares across the board on its Lusaka –London flight as part of restructuring of its ticket pricing system.

British Airways Commercial Manager for Zambia, Beatrice Kamanga announced the reduction in a statement to ZANIS in Lusaka today.

She said the airline has introduced a new shoulder season of mid range fares for flights from June 10 to 22, December 6 to 31 and between August15, and October 31.

Ms. Kamanga said the reductions will mean the airline which is the only airline to fly customers direct from Zambia to Europe give travelers’ real value for money.

She said the new fare structures which will also incorporate further reductions in low season fares comes into effect on Monday May 9, 2011.

She said the airline has been working hard to provide affordable fares while maintaining high quality service and comfort.

“The airline, which is the only airline to fly customers direct from Zambia to Europe, has introduced a new “shoulder season” of mid-range fares for flights between August 15 and October 31, June 10-22 and from December 6 to 31,” she said.

Ms. Kamanga said customers can fly into London Heathrow’s new Terminal 5 for around two-thirds of the peak season fare if they fly at the new designated “shoulder season” times.

She added that the low season rates apply from January 19 to June 9, and November 1 to December 5 while the high season is from June 23 to August 14 and from January 1 to 15.

She added that tourists and professionals will benefit from the new ticket rates, as it will enable them choose a time to fly according to their schedules while still taking advantage of attractive prices.

British Airways has been operating in Zambia for more than 70 years and currently flies in the country three times a week.

Interesting. Wonder how much they actually "slashed" the price? I've heard this is the way to fly to Lusaka from a few Zambians, but we haven't flown that way yet.

Greg,
I have done it and can highly recommend it!

Greg,

BA is the way to go if Zambia is your destination. I fly BA if at all possible on every safari. They just do a better job.

I have been flying BA for the last 12-15 trips. The route Phx-London-Lusaka is fast friendly and very efficient. I am taking the whole fam damily to Lusaka in about 4 weeks.(4 peeps)

BA was 3300 PER!!!!!! COACH!!!!!

Delta was about 2600.

We went with Delta, Phx-Atl-Jhb-Lusaka. Last week I upgraded all 4 seats to the new economy comfort seats, which are equivalent to BA's world traveler plus for less than the price of a coach ticket on BA.

I still prefer BA but come on guys. Business class is nearly 10K

I don't blame you Steve, especially when multiplying by 4! I never really get the airlines mentality... fares, especially longer trips or overseas can change daily if not hourly. Last month, SAA through JFK ended up being cheaper than SAA-Dulles and Delta when flying to Bulawayo. Substantially so! I guess they try to put butts in seats on the underbooked flights!

But business class is ridiculous on overseas flights! And most of the time only 3/4 or less full!

I do fly first class to Alaska every year and find that trip only 2x to 2.5x more expensive than coach, but overseas you are talking 4x to 5x more expensive. I fail to follow their logic...

i always have liked BA,and I would prefer it to any alternatives to go to Africa. I have hunted in Zambia, but this promotion completely ignores the hunting season, so it would not be of interest to me.

There is no way I would endure Zambia without hunting. They do have some wonderful animals, but the country as a whole is not exactly in that category.

Anjin,

The way I read the dates the special fares cover a large piece of the hunting season. 10-22 June is prime time for leopard and 15 Aug-31 Oct is great for most anything else in Zambia.
