Looking for suggestions on a duffel bag with wheels. I don't want a small one that I can take on a plane; I have one of those. This is a big duffel for the safari that I can check.

Filson makes a very nice one. But also consider that any big duffel with wheels is going to start out very heavy (airline limits) before you put the first thing in it. I've used a large Red Oxx duffel for years and even without the wheels and associated structure it is easy to get close to carriage limits.

...check Orvis rolling duffle. I've been using one for several years, and am quite satisfied with it.

I use the Orvis duffle as well.

Which ever you choose be certain it has a reinforced eyelet in the fabric so you can put a TSA cable lock through the zipper bodies and fabric. That way if they use the bic pen trick to strip the zippers they won't be able to reclose them and you will at least know you have been ripped off.

Same with me on the Orvis. It has been to Africa and South America with me many times. The one I gave is light weight, almost like ripstop material.

Save some money and buy the L.L. Bean Adventure duffel. It's tough as nail and will save you hundreds of dollars.

Eagle Creek. Light weight and durable. No frame, just well-constructed wheels on one end and a well-made soft handle on the other end. Been using Eagle Creek for over a decade - work and pleasure. Never had a need to look elsewhere.

Outside the box a bit...I use a large hockey bag/rolling duffle. I've never been charged an oversize bag fee and I can fit my bow in the bottom and my gear on top.

I use the Orvis Battenkill rolling duffle. I have a custom Americase that handles a breakdown rifle in the bottom compartment. Easiest way through the airport. A single heavy bag is easier than a small bag and a long gun case.

I used a Patagonia large rolling duffle to RSA last year.
It is light and tough.
Held everything I needed for a 14 trip except for camera gear and personal items in a backpack.

Avoid the large Boyt rolling duffel. It has 3 plastic stiffeners that are just pop riveted through the bottom of the bag on the outside. The first trip, 2 of the 3 popped off( lost). The last stiffener lasted 1 more trip. After that, the bag would fold up and collapse inward when rolled by the end handle. Expensive junk.

Agree with Mark. The Filson and others are nice but cost a lot. These are equal to the task and light in weight.

You can pick up a reasonably priced rolling duffel bag on Amazon for around $100 https://www.amazon.com/Samsoni...M9FTVMNP3NTNV0J7EP3T
, get 2 or 3 American Touristeradjustable TSA locking straps on ebay for $10 each or so http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html...ombination+&_sacat=0
. I use small stuff sacks or compression sacks to hold my gear. I use nylon securing straps to hold the TSA straps in place. I just returned from a trip to Greenland by way of Denemark and each airline had different weight I flew SAS and they had a 51 pound limit while Greenland air had 42 pound limit. My duffel with 3 straps weighed less than 7 pounds
The bag endured 4 airplanes 4 cabs and 2 buses plus 4 hours or more by snow sleigh in -25 degrees and it is like new I had less than 125 in my baggage set up

If I had taken a rifle I would have used my Freedom golf case bt SKB, holds alot including boots and you know it, never been charged extra due to the lenght

I would consider Tuff Pak. It's amazing the amount of clothing, etc.. You can fit in with your guns. Tuff Sak makes it easy to load/unload. I bought the saddlebag suitcase the straddles the Tuff Pak. Everything in one package, easy to move, can use saddlebag only for side trips without guns. Most important, makes it easy to bring soft cases for your rifles in case you fly light aircraft once in Africa. Also important to have to protect rifles on the truck.

Second for the Tuff Pak. Wouldn't use anything with a zipper. Consider looking at some of the hardside luggage without zippers and the TSA integral lock.

I had a big Filson rolling duffel that I used for many years. The airlines brutalized it over the years with rips and tears. I sent it back to Filson to see if it could be repaired. After examining it, they called and asked what color I would like in a new duffel.

I was stunned and very pleased with my new rolling duffle. The airlines have abused the new one over the past few years, but I now know Filson will stand behind it

Great company, great products.
