Does anyone have a pic of a custom rifle that utilizes a Swift/Blackburn small Oberndorf guard bow bottom metal? I'd really like to see how they look. Thanks

Matt

"Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right."

Thanks lindy. Based on that pic, it seems like the size of the bow is similar to an
'09, rather than the larger bow you see in the 20's and 30's. I had a square bridge action from 1912 that had a small inside release bow. It was basically just a 1909 bottom metal.

I superimposed a 1909 over Blackburn's illustration and if there's a difference, I can't tell it. If there was enough interest in the 1909 profile to pay the light bill, they would be offered.

We did a small run some years ago, no money in it.

I didn't know David Miller made his own bottom metal?

Well, I was looking at the Oberndorf bow Blackburn metals because I thought I might trade one to a fellow for an original Oberndorf 10.75x68 bottom metal. I was just told that he's not fond of the Blackburn, and is fairly set on an original commercial oberndorf 57mm unit, so I'm on the hunt for one of those. Thanks to all for your comments.

Here is another paper I got from Ted. From this it appears that the large Oberndorf guard and the small Oberndorf guard are not the same. It appears that in addition to it's size, the large Oberndorf guard is somewhat of a hybrid of both the small Oberndorf Guard and the Blackburn guard.

Thanks rich and Lindy. The Stutzen rifle uses the Blackburn style bow, rather than the Oberndorf, but thanks for posting. Gorgeous rifle!

The paper that lindy2 posted from Blackburn's that shows a sketch of their Large Oberndorf guard bow seems similar to me in size to the guard bow on the Brno ZG-47.

Matt,
I have a rifle being built now using that exact bottom metal, but do not have any pictures as my smith just got started on it. Maybe in a few weeks I can help you a bit more.

I like the large bows as Idhao is cold country and gloves are a must most of the time..My favorite guard bow is the very large Brno mod. 21 an 22, but they are hard as hell to find..The last one I had I traded for a Blackburn, so if you can find one, it will be expensive..Im always on the lookout for them. I have them on a couple of rifles I built.
