Have any of you ever seen a Hoffman Arms Rifle made with a Model 70 Winchester Action anywhere? Either for sale or in a collection?

The release of the Model 70 would have coincided with Hoffman reopening in Amarillo towards the end of the company's existence.

Thanks
Jim

Trying to see how many might have been made if any.

Still got the lovely, thank you.

I just picked up an Amarillo Hoffman at the gun show yesterday in 10.75x68, it's on a Mauser action though.

I did a lot of research some time back on Hoffman Arms, no reference was found to the mod. 70 action ever being used, only Mausers..But that was some time back and it could very well be possible from Amarillo shop time wise..but it,s easy enougn to stick a marked Hoffman barrel on a mod. 70 and make such a claim..Id be very suspicious of such a gun and do my homework on it before buying it.

I already own it Ray. Thanks for the info. The gun was sold originally in 1941 by Hoffman to a gent in Anchorage AK. It was sold then to a second gent who traded it in a deal for a super cub to the owner of Great Northern Guns here in Anchorage. An ex-employer of mine bought it from him and passed it on to me. It is original as from Hoffman except for the stock which was done by Martin Hagn.

Didn't Hoffman advertise that they'd do re-bbl work on a customers rifle? The bbl would then have a Hoffman name and address on it but IIRC that name & addr was somewhat different from the style that was put on the full custom rifles they built.
Maybe it was just the deletion of the sequential gun# on the re-bbl jobs that set them apart. I can't recall now.
There are some that may have further info over on the Double Gun BBS forum/ under the Classic Sporting rifle section.

I have a Hoffman Mauser 30-06. Plain but classic Lyman 48 sighted rifle made in Ardmore. A favorite of mine and very accurate.
Found it at a gun show lying in with a collection of break open shotguns, sporterized Arisakas, busted Sears pumpguns and plastic stocked Tack-y-cool stuff.

Given the barrel contour used on Frostbit's rifle, I would lean away from it being a simple re-barrel. The Winchester stock would very likely not have fit the new barrel.

In 1941, they probably used what they had, or the customer supplied, much like today.

Steve Barnett guns has a german actioned double rifle that Hoffman Arms finished, so they weren't strictly a Mauser shop.

My barrel has Hoffman Arms Co Amarillo Texas no. 26. I'd put up a picture but no longer use photo bucket.
