GS 265gr 9.3x74R loads?

SGraves155GS 265gr 9.3x74R loads?
Roscoe has volunteered to load up some GS FPS 265 solids for my Chapuis double.
Has anyone used this particular bullet in their double before? We've got 4831 and 4350 for powder and Winchester Magnum primers. I think Gerard suggests additional regulation by seating depth after appropriate velocity is reached, but I'm a little vague on that.

mouse93Steve my guess is that 4831 and 4350 would be too slow. My loads are R903 that is a tad faster burning than 4895 that would be my pick for 265FN's.
With R903 I got:
- 58 gr - 2247 fps
- 60 gr - 2333 fps
- 62 gr - 2427 fps
On all counts I'd listen to Gerard - he knows what he is talking about - seating depth worked for me.
Steve, where are you getting the GS Custom solids?
Peter.

mstarlingDon't know what your rifle was regulated for ... mine likes IMR 4831 with 286 gr Noslers and Woodleigh solids.
It does NOT like faster powders very well.

ROSCOESteve had a AA4350 and I experimented with Several loads using this powder. I am writing this from memory since I don’t have the data in front of me so I have rounded the velocities a bit.
63 grains 2250 FPS Cross
64 grains 2310 FPS Cross
65 grains 2390 FPS Cross
66 grains 2440 FPS Cross
I was shooting at 50 yards with a scope. The 63 grain loads were close to 3” apart at this distance. Increasing powder brought the loads together but at 66 Grains they still crossed about 1.5”. All loads printed fine on the horizontal axis. I did not experiment with seating depth. 66 grains gave me the velocity that I expected and there were no signs of pressure however I did not want to go any higher. I think Mouse may be correct that a little faster powder may work better.
I know Gerard recommends that his bullets be seated close to the lands. In my experience with other bullets in this rifle, a long seating depth causes pressure issues and poor accuracy…obviously these may work a little different. If Steve has the time and Patience I may keep playing around with this and try to get the loads to regulate properly. To be honest I think they would work fine for elephant even though they are crossing a bit. I did not shoot them at Jumbo range(25 yards) however I expect they may shoot close to POA at that distance.

We're going to be "gifted" with a health care plan we are forced to purchase and fined if we don't, Which purportedly covers at least ten million more people, without adding a single new doctor, but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents, written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that didn't read it but exempted themselves from it, and signed by a President, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, for which we'll be taxed for four years before any benefits take effect, by a government which has already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke!!!!! Mike,
I was shooting my Chapuis which was regulated with the 286 grain Norma Oryx. It also shoots very well with H4831 and 286 grain bullets. I did not try that powder with the lighter 265 grain bullets because I ran out of case capacity. 63 grains of 4350 was a compressed load with this bullet.

Peter, I got mine from their mail-order at their web-site. took a while to get here from SA. I think one of our members in Alaska has the US distributorship for them now--he posts under the screen-name Yukon Delta.
Roscoe,
I shot some of the loads this evening, and at 30 yds they cross less than an inch. Should be perfect.
Thanks a bunch.

Thanks Steve, I too bought mine directly from GS several years ago, so I have a small supply of 375 and 416 FNs and HVs. Unfortunatley I did not have my 9.3x74R back then. I will send Yukon Delta a PM and see if he has any solids, I assume they are FN's?
Thanks, Peter.

They sell helmets, and flack jackets at the Army Navy store.

I can say none of his doubles have blown up at a DRSS event....
