Any firearm manufactured after 1 October 1899 needs to go through an FFL dealer. Moreover, the caliber is not obsolete. Currently being loaded by Hornady.

Seems kind of silly laws for antiquated sporting rifles though.
I guess with the inordinate amount of mall and convenience store shootings involving affluent senior citizens armed with double guns, wearing pith helmets, knickers and ski masks I can surely see these weapons need to be kept under careful watch.

That's just it, that rifle/caliber is not antiquated. That caliber is currently being manufactured by all major Dr makers today. I have one!

To be honest, I'd take the WR over the VC.

The VC is very nice indeed.

I love my WR, it's got Character AND Patina
and because it isn't pristine, I have no problems with taking it out into some real rough stuff.

I really like the VC but I am not a dainty person !!! LOL

The nice fella I chatted with had a good point about parts and such being easier to get on a new gun for the VC.

"Dainty" as in delicate - I tend to be pretty rough
and ready.

In other words, I prefer the older used boxlock to
the nicer looking VC Sidelock.


Re parts - ppfff, hardly anything goes wrong,
plenty of gunsmiths around who can make most
parts needed - might take time but it would
be done.

Fantastic rifle ! Great caliber ! You have a real classic treasure !

As an FYI it does not have to be shipped through an FFL if the receiver has a C&R license as I'm sure it predates 1962.

In many states, a gun can be shipped within the state borders with no license requirements as long as both parties are residents of the state.

Wish I could afford one.

The C&R license is a Federal item and should be "the law of the land", I say should, as we know some states and cities make up their own laws that violate the principal of Federal pre-emption.

As for "instate shipments", the little bit of checking on Nevada I did reveals that it appears, that EXCEPT for Clark county, FTF transactions are legal. Now is shipping it within the state different than FTF ? Durned if I know.

I would start by calling the NRA ILA office (you are an NRA member, right ?). If they they say okay, then I would send a certified letter to the NV Attorney General requesting a ruling in a signed letter. (Be sure to mention the ILA's input). If they say, okay, your butt is covered EXCEPT IN CLARK COUNTY!

How did I miss this thread? What a sweet rifle. At 11 pounds it should be pleasant enough to shoot. As much as I love the old WR horn butt plate I would be tempted to have someone like Dustin put a Silvers or leather covered Decelerator pad on it. Congrats.

I may do that down the road.....put a Silvers pad on it. The LOP is just a little short for me and it would keep the orginal horn butt plate from any future abuse on my part. Having said that, I don't find the recoil to be a problem with the horn butt plate......just a little too slick and slightly short for my liking. Not sure of the history on this rifle, but it doesn't appear to have seen many days in the field considering it's age.

As I said on another thread, it would sure be interesting if these old English doubles could talk and tell their stories. Talk about some wonderful campfire conversations.

Re being short, you might have noticed in those photos I emailed you that I put a lace up leather cover on mine, just to extend the LOP by 1/2 an
inch.

Means no need to change the butt yet it is
still fine to shoot when I do.

After all, it's not like I shoot it that
regularly.

Might be an option to consider.

Funny you should mention this. I was just discussing looking for a laceup leather cover with a friend earlier this week. Was this something you had made or is it a retail item? A pic would be helpful if you have one available. Thanks.
