Last Friday I received my new Heym PH in 500. The most accurate double I've owned in years. New Guy is going to post pics and targets. Rifle weighs 10.9 lbs, 15.15 LOP. Now I had to go and order a kid brother for companionship so the 450-400 will do just that. In one week I'll have the 500 in Zim in the jess chasing tuskless ele and buff around, perfect field test, it's what the 500 was born for.

Sounds like a fantastic rifle. I have always liked the Heyms. How do you compare the felt recoil to other .500s that you have shot?

Dan,
I know this is subjective but I shot a Heym sidelock that was 2+ pounds heavier than this rifle recoil seems the same (of course it was Rt. handed, cast on for me). I have had a Searcy in 470 that was a pound heavier and felt recoil was more than this rifle. I've had a Heym 88B in 500-416 caliber that was 10 lbs that I thought felt recoil was greater. I shot the above groups standing with shooting sticks at 50yds and was comfortable without the sissy pad.

Gerry, the loads are written down on the targets above, hard to read.
R-15 89grains, 2114fps, 1/2 Kynoch wad, 570 grain Woodie soft.
R-15 88grains, 2112fps, 1/2 Kynoch wad, 540 grain GS solid
**Gerry R-15 can vary quite a bit between lots always work up but my particular lot seems to be a little hot thus you might need to add 1-3 grains to get the velocity I am getting, etc.

Dirk, I'd send that thing back to Chris! They put the cheek piece on the wrong side of the stock! Big Grin

John, beauty might only be skin deep on some rifles but not this one, intrinsic and external beauty combined. The target I posted above, the figure eight lower Lt. target was the first two shots I put down range at 50 yds off of shooting sticks, then I thought I'd try a group with the GS solids (upper right target), again first two down range, bingo! Darn, didn't even have to work up reloads, no fun in that.
