I had the pleasure of meeting Ludo Wurfbain, owner of Safari Press, this weekend. He was up of a bird hunt and I had the pleasure of dining, hunting, shooting, and speaking with Mr. Wurfbain. The grouse hunt was a little lack luster, but our double rifle shoot was quite literally a blast! I'm posting a couple pictures and 3 videos of us shooting Cal's 600NE.

Ludo, Cal, Blackie, and I preparing for our hunt:

Videos:

Cal

Me

Ludo with Cal waiting to "net" his 600NE!:

Ludo and Cal each took pictures. I'll post them or see if they'll post them when they can. Ludo has some excellent pictures including the target Cal and I shot off hand with his 600NE. Very impressive. I'll have to admit the first time I shot it a month or so ago......I was affraid. This time was different. I shot it with control, accuracy, and handled the recoil. It was fun!!!

PS. For the record......4 bores kick the most!!!

May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

In the third video, what is the guy doing with the big net? The shooter looks like he is already leaning back a bit (before the shot) hence it really knocks him back. Other than that, recoil was not as bad as I expected.
Thanks, Peter.

I noticed that in the video of the gentleman in the blue shirt. the first shot has quite a fireball from the muzzle but none of the others does. Different load in that barrel?

The net was a joke. If Ludo got knocked over and the gun flew out of his hands Cal would "net it". The recoil is managable IF you have good form, but trust me it's signifigant!

As far as I know all the loads were the same full power loads. I know what you're talking about, but I don't have an explanation. Maybe Cal knows.

An 11.5lbs falling block 600NE. Needless to say when the full power loads come out I'll be watching from a safe distance out to the side!

Hi Gents:
A reply to two questions:
Peter:
The net was a joke--that's all.
Huvius:
The question of the fireball is a good one. The ammunition was loaded on the same day with the same bullet and identical charge of IMR 4831--160 grains. Here is my take: I don't know the technology of new digital video cameras but if they have a shutter like the old movie cameras it may be the shutter was closed at the instant of the muzzle flash. I know my videos of an airplane prop shows the blades in a semi-still fashion when turning at full power. That is all I can think of for an explanation.
Cheers,
Cal

Here's Cal's and my .600NE target:

My fist right and left were the two in the middle. Cal shot the two on the left. Then I shot the two on the right. All shots were off hand. I'll post more pictures when I get them.

Cal what video camera was used here, and is it the same camera used in the 600NE buffalo hunt you posted some time ago?

I tried to look at every frame. The "Net" video there is some serious whiplash lookong like a car accident. Rob is correct I think when he speaks from his experience that a propperly fit gun and technique makes a HUGE difference. If I ever get to shoot a 600 NE I want to get it on video.

No it was my crappy little Cannon Power Shot A700. I'm about due for a camera upgrade.
