Shootaway, there is nothing wrong with your Searcy rifle! In fact you made a good choice for your first double rifle. That however has nothing to do with the quality of the old vintage doubles being quality items, that have a history behind them for the collector! Butch will tell you that himself.

The longer you have your B. Searcy double the more you will appreciate it as it takes on the patina that comes with age and use. It's next owner will listen to what your rifle has to say down the road in a few years.

By not appreciating the work put into one of the vintage double rifles you are cheating yourself out of one of the pleasures of owning and hunting with a very unique hunting arm with a long history of hand making precision.

I just feel sorry for you that you seem to have not grasped the mystique that comes with a fine double rifle!

If one is going to hijack a thread, this is the way to do it. I love power tools.

Cal,

I have always been fond of power tools myself. They can be VERY expensive but they make for some exciting moments in life.

Kept waiting for hammer to meet nail bed in that first scene. Is that too clinical?

You have to be careful when you post a link like that without a warning when some of the viewers are nearing 80 yrs old! I think I need only a defibrillator while getting me on the way to the ER!

Gents:
For two of my doubles, here are targets for them. Data is written on the target itself. We are having the warmest winter EVER here in south central Alaska. The news reported Anchorage has not had a day below zero in over a year! So, I've been firing up the wood stove in the shooting shed when it is zero to 15, and shoot in the driveway when it is 20 to 30 degrees. The .500 target was 50 yards and I moved 10 yards closer for the 8-bore as I was unsure how a ball and shot gun would shoot due to not knowing the exact projectile she was made for. You be the judge.
Cheers,
Cal
PS. The 8-bore is for sale and you can see the details on <calpappas.com> and click on <Double Rifles For Sale>
