No. They're quite different.

400,
I did the standing bench as you described. I will try the sitting method next time...exactly as you stated and probably the sticks as well. I will try 99gr loads and take a friend that shoots a Manton 470 to see if he does any better.
I have some events I must attend the next 2 weekends. I will give it a break and try again to see if I can figure it out.
Thanks for all the help, ND Smiler

HI Dave:

You know you don't have to use H4831 or IMR4831 in your 470 NE double rifle. For the heck of it you could try starting out with RL-15 around 84 grains and work your way to 89 or 90 grains to see if your rifle regulates. But you will have to use a filler of dacron or wads.

I am still playing with my 470 NE Chapius, but I have two loads that shoot around 1.5 to 2.0 in groups at 50 yards. RL-15 @ 89 grains, 2 grains dacron filler, Jamison brass, Woodleigh softs 500 grain, Federal 215 LR primers, velocity about 2145 FPS. Three shots were almost touching and pulled last one half inch high.

I also tried H4831, and I swear my DR kicked harder and my velocity was SLOWER than the RL-86 & 89 grain load. Yes I always chrono my loads, I tried H4831 @ 104, 105, & 106 grains and was around 2120 and and was getting 4 & 5 in spreads.

Just food for thought....

Change of plans...Here is what Butch sent me today:

Dave,
If your rifle is still crossing then you need to send it to me for correction. If it is still crossing at 103 grs. then the ribs or wedge at the muzzle has become loose. I'll be at SCI for the next week. I'll be back one week from today.
Call me and we'll make arrangements to fix this for you.
Don't panic
Butch

I think I'm going to go this direction.

You gotta give credit to Butch Searcy for knowing and taking care of his rifles.

As you note, this is Plan A.

Butch seems like a hell of a guy! He obviously knows his guns and doesn't beat around the bush. I have e-mailed him twice now in the evenings, and he has responded personally the next morning. That's standing behind your product!!! thumb

ND,

Butch has cut right to the chase and come to the point without any drama.

Let us know what's what when he has a look at it.

Regards, Tim
