Ah 500N, I remember well the wonderful 5KG(!!!) SLR that I hoofed for 95km in just over 24hr many many moons ago, stopping along the way to take various written tests. I just about fell to my knees in thanks when I got an M16 back in my mitts!!!!

Instead what we got is some pussy builder - Only 100 ft-lbs recoil. No muzzle brake! And the only problem some can find with this idea is that the gun is too heavy!

Think impractical. At some point bigger does not work. You can debate if that point is 500,577 or 600 but there is a limit of human endurance vs penetration on game. That limit varies. Imposable to define. Clearly using a muzzle brake will extend that limit.

Dont imply this is stupid yet 2 bore makes any more sense.

No one but you is inferring any of it "makes sense". You must consistently think you have original thoughts to post the crap you do ...

Carry on!

Jay, He's a newbie dunce .. who's never reloaded the first big bore round, and completely missed what i said about the oversized action ...

i don't consider myself or rob to be "site heros" .. though i do think we've done something pretty cool and contributed to the shooting community.

the action is too large, the gun too heavy, and its outside the performance envelope of what a big bore DR is designed to do ..

if he doesn't GET that, then no amount of words will fix it for him .. the gun is outside the job its meant to do .. its too heavy, and can't be used as a DR is used... carried, and shot, up close and personal ..

then he has this little strawman BS about "stupid" .. that he doesn't GET IT means he should either ask questions or STHU.. but to blather on, about things he doesn't understand, is just tyro foolishness.

Definitely beyond anything I'm interested in but cool and interesting in my opinion.

Here was SAFARIKID'S and now Bigdoggy700's Mastodon which, despite its size and weight was actually used successfully on a few safaris.

Mastodon vs. Cape buffalo

Gotta love the big stuff and the folk who actually use it on paper and especially on game

i think that action would be perfect for a 4 bore rifle, but as a souped up 12 bore maybe a bit over the top in regards to weight and barrel size.

the barrels look like they are packing about twice the steel needed for that kind of power, but that is just my oppinion.

best

That is a tad heavy for a 750,but neverless very nice...The 700NE I had was a light 17pds..and it was slinging 1000 grains at 2000fps...Well,would my Ole "Mastodon"(Only 27pds empty!) be a 1000 Express?! bewildered animal

Would you need more than two?

Also - you have seen Tom. He could throw one of those shells hard enough to down a Cape buffalo.
