Double shoot with MJines

Tim HeraldDouble shoot with MJines
I had the luxury to be asked to speak at the Houston Safari club last night, and that is always an honor and a treat. This morning Mike Jines picked me up and was gracious enough to take me to his range to shoot some doubles. I had never shot one, and I was excited to go with Mike.
Mike please correct me if I am wrong, but we shot a number of beautiful rifles in .450/400-.500/465-.470-.500-.577, and I am forgetting something. Mike might chime in on the makers of each. I know there was a Heym, a H&H, a VC, and I think a Searcy.
I can't tell you how much fun I had, shooting not very well, but learning from Mike and just BSing. He was a gracious host, taught me a fair amount, and now has made me really want a double. He certainly has some beautiful rifles, and I know I only saw a sample of his collection.
I think I decided a .470NE is about right for me, although I was surprised that the .500 and .577 were not neArly as bad as I had imagined. No way I would carry that .577 in the field due to weight, but the .500 wasn't bad at all. Mike's has a red dot, and that made a huge difference in accuracy.
I will try to post a few photos tomorrow as I am still in the airport traving home, but let me say that Mike can sure shoot those guns. I know we have all seen him on video, but I would sure hate to be an animal that he is shooting at! Sorry for typing, this is on my phone.

MJinesYou are more than welcome Tim. We had a good time and the weather cooperated today with sunshine and cool temperatures. It is nice to be able to get the doubles to the range and particularly to enjoy the company of someone that shares a passion for hunting and shooting. And Tim is being modest, for a first time double rifle shooter he did very well. I think he and double rifles were made for one another.

Tim also gave a very informative and enjoyable talk at the HSC meeting that was well attended. If he can figure out how to post the slow motion video clips at the range, those were neat, my iPhone does not do slow motion.
For informational purposes, we had the following rifles at the range:
Lang .400/360
Manton .450/.400
Holland & Holland .500/.465
Verney Carron .470
Heym .500
Searcy .577
We started at the low end and worked up. I think his right arm will be out of that sling in no time.

Todd WilliamsJust be careful Tim. Mike is known for photoshopping one of those ugly Blaser rifles into the hands of shooters with class on occasion. Not to mention questionable scooter riding companions!

My Watson .500 will be with me as it is returned from Griffin and Howe for a mild makeover.
