He can't, the barrels are 6.5m/m.

How about a necked down 30-40 Krag to 6.5m/m. A proper case (flanged) for a DR.

Keith

ps: or just go with the x57

I have a good idea, just have him build you one in the chambering you want! I'm sure he'd be more than happy to build you one! I'd like one chambered for 375 Flanged, with scope mounts!

Mac,

I like the way you think! If you are plnning to attend DSC, please come by and sit a spell.

For this one, I think I am sticking with the 6.5x57R. It's a dandy, and I will include all of the brass I go through for regulation with the rifle. Load it up wth 160gr and rain down devastation on ferral vermin swine!.....in style :-)

Bailey,

What a neat gun! What would expect something along the lines of a 450/400 to weigh?
What a creative and talented lot we have on this forum!
That would be a true heirloom piece.

Eezridr,

A 450/400 would weigh right at 10lbs. It could be made lighter, and it would provide a discount for the buyer because he would have to shoot it the 20 or so rounds to regulate it......so I wouldn't have to :-)

Keith,

The safety is still inside the bar of steel it will be made from .... Wink

The safety will be on the tang, just haven't gotten there yet.

Gorgeous -since it is a falling block you are not limited to rimmed cartridges correct? I could see this as something like a 416 Taylor.

I like Mac's idea of a .375 Flanged, claw mounted scope, and I would like lots of engraving. I will talk to you at DSC. I will be shopping for a DR for my wife... Something scoped and up to 9.3x74.
Nice gun! tu2

Dave,

I look forward to meeting with you.

PTG had a reamer for the 6.5x57r on the shelf! How cool is that. Ables ammo here in Texas has the ammo, so 60 rounds and the reamer will be here by weeks end. Should give me plenty of time to get it regulated before DSC.

Bailey,
We will come see you. My wife was taken by your single shot in the classifieds. I hope you bring it to DSC. We both love the heavily engraved guns.
This double would make her a fine deer rifle. We can discuss this gun at the show. I want to keep her focused on a double, but it has to be "pretty" to capture her interest. I know you are most qualified to meet our needs!
My 14 year old son is a collector of custom knives, so I'm sure he will enjoy meeting you as well.
I look forward to shaking your hand, ND Smiler

Thanks Sean, the pleasure is all mine.

The reamer came in yesterday. One hour after picking it up at the PO, the rifle was chambered, and by the end of the day, the extractor was timed and flinging cases. I'm working on the firing pins/transfer bars today and may be able to get a few rounds through her this evenning. Definately tomorrow. Fun stuff!

Half a box of ammo through her today. Man what a sweet shooting rifle. Comes up and points like a dove gun and the recoil is about like 20 ga. Best thing is the extractor, which seems to be confused because I had to make a point to lower the lever slowly so the cases didn't zip out of the chambers. So it must think it's an ejector. Cool

I'm so freakin excited about these rifles it makes me want to run a victory lap around the shop. One of those blind "hog and a truffle" situations, but I'll take them when they come.

Awesome work sir! I would suggest a chamber in 6.5X65R (a necked down 7X65R) - that way you get the European nostalgia and the American velocity! It is not even a Wildcat as it is a RWS caliber! http://www.chuckhawks.com/6-5x65rws.htm

I wonder what a basic coulour case hardened finish will cost? I would love to own one in 450/400.

Will Do Larry, Looking forward to seeing you in Dallas.

Got her regulated. Only took about 30 rounds. ( I like it when it ony takes acouple of trips to the bench and go through 10-15 rounds). I used a vertical wedge as opposed to a wedge that extend horizontaly from the muzzle. Not that one works better than the other, just my preference.

I alway stress over regulation. I want them to shoot the exact spread of the bores s thy shoot paralell. I had it just over an inch twice, but that would cause the groups to grow as range increased. Makes you think more when shooting, and shooting shouldn't be a thinking game in that regard. Well, I finaly have it just right...

Afterward, the front sight base if made and fitted, then soldered in place.

It will be machined to the proper hight, dovetail cut for the sight and of course polished for blueing.

The front sight will be a thin blade with a small bead, rear sight is a three blade ( two folding, one fixed) express sight. I made a batch of these and will have several at the show for sale. There is plenty of rib for mounting a scope, but I don't need one yet, and enjoy hunting with open sights.
