This boxlock 577 just arrived, and Max Ern's case colors are incredible.

Beautiful rifle.

MY NEW BABY HAS ARRIVED!!!!! Well, at least Chris has seen it and shipped to my FFL holder. I'll pick it up tomorrow and head straight to the CBP office for a 4457 and then I fly to BC on Friday for a bear hunt with Skinnercreekhunts.com!

Why am I not able to see the picture of the rifle. Same problem with another by same poster. Not complaining - just want to see the picture!

You have to love Max’s case colors. The level of engraving you decided on goes very nicely with the case colors IMO. I also like the addition of the gold Heym inlay you selected James! The fixed and flip-up sights look great as well. The extended top and bottom tang are another great choice. I recognize some features that make me believe this is the Special Model. Is that what you selected?

Congrats James. A beautiful and well-built double rifle to be sure! I hope you get to break it in on your upcoming hunt.

Best always,
Shawn

I picked the rifle up today from my FFL dealer and went straight to the airport where we have a local Customs and Boarder Protection office to get a 4457 filled out and stamped.

I have to say that the pictures that are posted do not do this rifle justice. It is simply a stunning piece of work by world class craftsmen. Chris, please extend my thanks to the HEYM team and Max Ern.

One of the main specifications for the HEYM team was that the 577 had to fit/feel exactly like my HEYM Deluxe 450/400. There would not be any room for error and I would accept nothing less. Chris Sells agreed to the challenge and from what I can tell, the gun is exactly as I specified.

If anyone is interested, I will be posting a daily update with pictures on my bear hunting trip in the “Hunting Reports – Rest of the World” section beginning with a post later this evening.

One question sir,

is it color case on the extended trigger guard and pistol grip cap or is it normal grey steel without blueing ?

The more I know, the less I wonder !

Yes, the trigger guard and tang are also CC. The thinner parts are more grey/brown in color, and the thicker parts are more blue/green.

The Heym 577 NE that is the subject of this thread was broken in on a super black bear hunt in British Columbia with Doug McMann of Skinner Creek Hunts. Loads of pictures on the Hunt Reports - Rest of the World forum on this site. I hope you enjoy.

Was the action colored without the crossbolt in?
I just notice that the little picture at the bottom of new_guy 's posts has color to the cross bolt as if it was in place when hardened but the 577 of the post looks like the bolt was colored separately.

I don't know much about doubles but after shooting this gun last week I can see how people can fall in love with them. Great feeling gun, well balanced and surprisingly not to bad on the recoil. To top it off it is definately a piece of art.
