375hnhThe really sad thing, as one of the comments said, is that he didn't even understand how wrong his actions were. So few parents teach their kids the significance of the flag anymore. I taught my kids (as my Dad did) from a very early age, but I don't think my son really "got it" until he became a soldier. All I can say is, "VFW, Way to go"! And he did get off easy.

SGraves155I like the VFW guy's idea. Offer the offender options besides calling the cops.
Their solution will result in improved behavior without the hassles of cops, judges, and lawyers.
Just options for rapists and thieves come to mind easily.

Alberta CanuckThe really sad thing to my eyes is that much of America doesn't realize just how correctly the VFW acted.
True justice is community justice, not the written words of bureaucrats and lifetime politically appointed professional judges.
Can any "sage" write a law which can be fairly applied in all circumstances without exceptions? Not only NO, but to believe it possible is to be unthinking...in other words to believe they can would be to believe in an oxymoron. Only neighbors can see the lives and the circumstances which lead to forbidden acts, and only they can make the proper allowances, if any. They cannot see perefectly, for sure, but they can see far better than any priveleged legal shark.
This world, not just this nation, has wandered so far from the realms of common sense and any true provision of justice that it is shameful.
Political correctness and the semi-deification of ivory-tower post secondary education have turned the world upside down in just under one century. Now "justice" is a political act, greed and theft are rewarded with multi-million dollar bonuses, presidents are esteemed because of their attainment of office instead of their leadership, and fraud and charlatanism are considered "sharp business practices". And the real manufacture of anything useful is looked down on by those that do nothing but move paper or computer sysbols.
Eventualy, the system of human interaction must right itself to remain viable at all. The longer the return to stability and justice is delayed, the more it will cost in all senses of that tewrm.
