SGraves155Dobson Fly
This was in the garage this morning. It's a female Dobson fly--a full grown hellgramite. About 3 and a half inches long.

Mary Hilliard-KruegerAlthough they do list being Arizona residents, I am greatly relieved that I have never come across one!

They would, however, make a nice habitat addition on a base.

MyNameIsEarlYep see them all over here. They are harmless other than those pinchers can hurt sometimes. We use to catch the hellgramite under rocks and use them for bait in the river. You could catch the crap out Bass and Catfish with those.

Mary Hilliard-KruegerWHOA...my sister lives in Verde and we hike w/our dogs every time I come up. Will be keeping an eye open for those little monsters!

Wow!
If that thing got on me, I'd be dancing and hopping and throwing articles of clothing off until I was sure it was gone!
Years ago, I did nearly as much on the side of a Kansas interstate for a simple grasshopper up my pant leg.
Creepy!
Hellgramites are loved by small mouth bass here in the upper Delaware River.
Hardly a cause for panic at the sight of the adult !
