Back in the 1980s when I was road-hunting meat moose in Alaska, like Alf and pals are doing now in BC,
I used a pack frame to get the meat to the road, folded down the back seat of my GMC, spread a tarp in back, and hauled 600 pounds of meat to the processor.
Windows down kept the meat cooling.

Of course I was in my third decade of life, and not the sixth and seventh decades like the BC geezers.
It takes them two trucks with block and tackle to do what I did with my back and legs.

There are small communities and local pockets of populace but for the most we are on our own.

We pack a whole whack of shit with us for this little excursion. We were lucky on this one, one of the guys had a contract going at a decommissioned mine hence the presence of the crane. Otherwise its winches on ATV's and such.

Packing is mandatory at times...... none of your machines would help you here.

What no helicopter ?

Speaking of helicopters, our regs prohibit the use of helicopters in hunting and there are specific rules as to their use ( or not) and now Drones have been added to the regulations was well. You may not use drones to scout , photograph etc whilst hunting...... IMO a good thing

it would have been cool though to get some areal footage of the areas we hunt in.

No This is all in jest This Mooose getting expedition is basically road hunting with some walking and stalking added but for the most it is because the forests up here are not really accessible. Access can only be gained to those that have seen logging and replanting. Without that access we would be hunting there and I dare say there would likely also be no Moose as their presence was brought about by clear cut logging.

Damn. That would take a few trips. Did you hang the meat high in the trees and come back?

Nice going.
You could have used a pack horse there. Those are still good in Alaska for moose hunting,
where the miles and miles of bouldered landscape makes the ATVs useless.
Of course you then have to have the truck and horse trailer to get them as far as the road will allow before unloading.
And sometimes a green horse will refuse to get back in the trailer ...
That reminds me of an Alaska moose hunting story where I got saddle sore, me being as green as the one stubborn pack horse.
I got to go home that night, but the horse got tied up at roadside for a wait overnight.
She was more willing to get in the trailer the next day.

"Snellstrom" and "graybird" are far better than horses or mules and I couldn't show pictures of this dead ol' guy without all of their very kind and generous help.



Deadfall timber in the area might prevent any 4 legged help and all vehicles are illegal off of the roads.

By the way.....graybird will have to correct me on this but his fitbit watch said we packed in and out just under 7 or 8 or 9 miles.

I just can't remember how far.....I think I suffered some brain damage on the pack out....body damage for sure
