Couldn't resist. Ruger Hawkeye African .223

Gallery of Guns had them on sale. I love the style of "express" rifles and had considered having a Remmy 799 smithed to mirror my Whitworth for low cost training. I'll report back after it arrives. FYI GoG had several Ruger Hawkeye African's in 416 Ruger in stock.

I purchased one a year ago for my daughter to shoot as a "work up" rifle instead of shooting her .375 during practice sessions on shooting sticks, etc.

I was introduced to the rifle by Tim Fallon at the SAAM shooting school. They use this same rifle during their dangerous game course to teach technique and rifle handling during various drills. Once you have mastered with the .223 they move you onto your DG weapon. Saves the shoulder and the pocket book.

I choose the CZ in the euro style for my practice rifle,since I already shoot several Brnos and CZ.Only thing I would wish for is a faster twist(1-9") instead of the 12".The sights are on and it feeds well...

Picked it up today. Pretty nice. Decent wood, feels trim and fast handling. Trigger is pretty good. Sights are great. The floor plate is not perfectly tight but minimal movement when pressed. Action is tight but smooth. Smoother than my Whitworth. I'll try to get some decent pics soon. Lost the digital camera in the divorce. I picked up a Federal bulk pack of 55gr FMJ and a box of TulAmmo 55gr FMJ steel cased stuff to try. Can't wait to get to the range.

Nice thing about the Ruger is that it comes with the 1:9 so you can use the heavier bullets. It would be a nice deer gun to practice with.

The pictures I saw look good. I suspect one feature I'd much prefer over the CZ is that the safety is not backwards. I notice you live in Texas--legal and lethal for deer. Your daughter put the bullet right place on a deer she'll have a trophy. 55 grain cup and core all that is needed.

You have me confused with somebody else. No kids here. The "normal" safety was the deciding factor for me. Even though I have 7.62x39 stacked to the rafters. If I use it for hunting I think Black Hills 62gr TSX @ 3100fps loading will be my choice.
