| This year..... 3x4 mule deer @ 500 yds with 6.5x47 and 127 gr Barnes LRX. On the same hunt I was with my best friend and his neighbor and watched them both down 4x5 bulls at close to 300 yds with 6.5x284's and 140 VLD's. One DRT and the other destroyed off side shoulder, bull maybe going 40 yds. Alan |

| Four elk, all bulls.
One 5X5, two spike Rocky Mtn. and one 3X4 Roosevelt.
All with 6.5-06 and 140's @ about 2900 fps at the muzzle.
The three Rocky Mtns were with the Sierra Game King 140 (before I knew they were too "soft", ha.) Ranges were under 100 yards and none went more than 20-30 yards.
The Roosie was about 150 yds. with a Nosler Partition 140. Worked fine also. |

| I shot my first bull moose in Sweden with a 6.x55 combination rifle. That one shot was enough. Most recently a nice 3 point black tail this past fall in WA with a sporterized M96. Also 6x5x55. |

I'm not looking into becoming a new Bell, but the 6,5mms tend to have sterling reputation so I'm quite curious. I posted the same regarding 7mm on the medium calibers forum. Oughta be interesting to compare notes!

I shot this boar at a hair over 200 yards when he was running straight away from me. I was using a Browning Low Wall in .260 and 130gr Nosler Accubonds pushed to about 2850fps at the muzzle. I hit the boar right in the poop chute and he immediately went down in the hind quarters. When I caught up to him, I put another through his shoulder and he was done. The second Accubond came to rest under the gristle shield on his far side. The boar measured 60 inches from the tip of his nose to the base of his tail and 32 inches from the bottom of his front hoof to the top of his shoulder. This is the largest animal I have shot with a 6.5. As hard as large boars are to put down and with as well as the .260 worked for me on this boar and many other animals, I would not hesitate to shoot any non-dangerous game with one of my .260s and a good bullet. | Old thread, but I liked it.
Before he passed away, Greg Rodriguez was nice enough to correspond with me about the .260. I was asking him about the .260 vs the 7mm08 for my son and he felt the .260 killed as well with less recoil.
He mentioned what his son had taken, I looked up the message thread and the quote is below:
"He's taken 6 wildebeest, 4 gemsbok, kudu, zebra, giraffe, black bear, leopard, nyala and a whole bunch of other stuff with it - all clean, one-shot kills"
Pretty impressive list for the .260 Rem. |

| Yes, the 6.5 is a pretty ideal round. I'm pushing the 130 gr Swift Sirocco ll at around 2950 fps from my 26" barreled Creedmoor. Its my caribou load but I wouldn't hesitate to shoot a trophy bull moose with the same load.
Phil Shoemaker : "I went to a .30-06 on a fine old Mauser action. That worked successfully for a few years until a wounded, vindictive brown bear taught me that precise bullet placement is not always possible in thick alders, at spitting distances and when time is measured in split seconds. Lucky to come out of that lesson alive, I decided to look for a more suitable rifle."

| For years my brother hunted exclusively with a custom (FN mauser action, Douglass bbl) in 264 win mag. He got it built right after they came out. He hunted in B.C. and shot everything with it from Blacktail deer, Bears, and Bull Moose. It handled them all with aplomb.
He only shot one load out of it...140 gr Win. pp. It was interesting in that it was a dual dia. bullet.
Side note.. it for some odd reason only had a 22" bbl? lol I know, I know, 22"??? lol
Man was that sucker ever loud, had vicious muzzle blast.
Funny story...one day we were sighting in before a hunt. He fires first shot and this is under a covered outdoor range. Well the blast/concussion caused a large fir knot to jump out of a roof joist and it landed on the shooting table bounced up and struck him in the cheek startling the hell out of him! I Never ever saw that happen before or since. |

| Recently shot a good sized red deer stag with a borrowed rifle in .260 Remington using factory loaded Accubonds. Stag dropped at the shot.
My personal preference is always to err on the side of extra bullet diameter. Because of my line of work I usually have to travel to hunt. So being limited in the amount of time I get to hunt, coupled with unfamiliar terrain, I like to make sure there's absolutely no doubt that I will have two nice large holes on both sides of the game I shoot.
So for me, a 6.5mm (or .277 since I shoot one of them rather frequently) is best kept to light bodied game around the 400 pound mark. I'm thinking of animals like caribou and red deer.
If however, you're hunting familiar terrain and enjoy a full season's worth of time, I doubt there's a hoofed, non-dangerous, game animal you couldn't reasonably take with the proper bullets. |

| Ive shot one deer with a 6.5x06 and one with a 6.5x55, both worked fine, but I opted the 257, 7x57 or 270 were just as good..so havn't been a loyal 6.5 fan.. Iv shot a lot of game of varios sizes with a 6x45 that's considerable lighter than most 6x5s, and have no complaints..The largest animal Ive shot with my 6x45 was Kudu on a cull hunt, one of which was gift of a rather large bull..One shot in the lungs, a short run and he was down, range was about 100 yards. Bullet was a 75 gr GS Customs HV HP at 2900 FPS..complete penetration with a quarter size exit hole and a short but good blood trail..

| Two Roosevelt cow elk with my Browning Low Wall .260 and the Hornaday 129 gr interlock. Both one shot kills at 100 and 252 yards. Recovered a bullet from the longer hit and it was perfect. Going after them again this year, but with a 6.5 CM and the same Hornaday bullet. Elk, it's what's for dinner.. |

AR or bolt gun and what is the barrel length? Do you have chronograph results for any loads? I'm ordering a light 6.5 Creedmoor bolt rifle with a 20" barrel and I am trying to get info. Appreciate hearing anything you can offer up.
