400NE Rimless?
Hi,

I am in the process of building a double rifle in 400NE (450/400 3").
Since I now have the reamer and dies I am thinking about making a 400NE Rimless on a boltrifle.
I have tried to run a few 375RUM cases through the sizer and except for being a little short (2.85" instead of 3") they look pretty good.
Will this work? And is there another case that would be better for a parent case as to get the lenght?

Best Regards
Stig

I would let a gunsmith turn off the rim and make a new groove. Cases would have correct stamping.
But they are long - what kind of action do you have in mind?

Hej Bent,

That might be a better idea Big Grin
I intend to use my Blaser, it will digest 3.6" at least! I have made a switch barrel system for a Blaser barrel!

For like barrel lengths, the .400 Whelen (or one of its ilk) will nearly match the original .400 Jeffery loadings.

Point is, the man want to make use of his already obtained reamer and die-set. Not much room for conversions there. Making rimmed cases rimless is a piece of cake.

Tak Bent,

The plan is to have an extra barrel for load development before feeding it to my future double and to have another bigbore! As I need an excuse!!!

Why not just neck the 375 Ruger up to .411, .408 or .423, whichever blows your skirt up, that will do the trick and all you have to do is run the 375 Ruger into the die and presto you got exactly what your after without all that hassle....

OR....395 since the reamer, dies, and bullets are already available, in production, and field tested!! There are a couple guys hanging around here who have made about every iteration of .395/400 rimmed/rimless one could reasonably use. Loads are developed and barrels are available.

Ah, I misread the original post.

Why not just buy a new Ruger No.1 for load development? It's available from the factory in .400 Jeff. and is as strong as any bolt gun.
