using the 9,3x72 brass...

cutting off the rim and putting an extractor groove...the 9,3x72 can be pumped up to 411...

if you have a cheap rem 700 with a .470 boltface (270/30-06) it could be a fun project...it would be like a loooong 411 hawk or 411 express.

i do like my idea of the 400 jeffery much better though...

this is how i see it being done...

use altered 411 express (a longer 411 hawk. see www.z-hat.com ) reamer and dies

the positives would be...

100 fps faster than the 411 hawk with 400 grainers...think 400@ 2200 and 350's @ 2400

using and maxing out the long, cheap and avaliable rem 700's with a 30-06 size boltface.

like i said...not my favorite idea but interesting...

Boomstick:

What are you trying to do? What have you built so far?

Didn't the 404 Jeffery work with 400 grain bullets @2100fps? Will another 100 fps help?

I think the 411 Hawk is OK right where it is. If more power is needed, maybe something bigger is needed and more practical.

its just a fun wildcat idea that i find interesting enough to share...

i am finishing my first wildcat gun right now...

if i was doing another right now it would be a 400 jeffery (a modified 450/400)

i think 400@ 2200 is not excesive...

if you had a rem 700 with a 30-06 boltface and wanted to max out this is a neet idea imho.

40 450/400 Nitro .411" 400gr RN SN 50 .338 .307 1800-2200 1.298

Woodleigh's RN 1800-2200fps is max for good penetration. The 411 Hawk makes a nice, fast handling, 450-400 bolt action.

Boom, I know you want your own, but is it still not a little silly to use the 9,3x72, when the x74 is so much cheaper, more available and actually have the same diameter at the body as the .30-06 group cartridges? Don't mind my FGC's, just moove the shoulder further foreward, and you have your family!

Not familliar with the .411 Express, but using a .411 Hawk die would make a grand thing, that should easily reach 2300 f/s with a 400 grs bullet. Funny funny funny.

But I am tired of wildcats, so I'll just make a 10,75x68. wave
