Here is the link to the .400 Whelen article: http://www.z-hat.com/smashing_the_headspace_myth.htm

After I wrote that article I wrote an article telling about building and testing a .400 Whelen. That's the article I have scanned and will send out.

Seems to me the 375 Ruger case just about voids all the above mentioned wildcats..

I just built one in a 416/375 Ruger and it works in a std. 98 action with just a tad of work...My next one will be a .404/375 Ruger.

If I were building a wildcat such as you suggest then I would use the 9.3x62 or 9.3x64 case as opposed to the 30-06 case which really limits your powder space with those big bullets.

Good call Ray. The .411 Hawk is basically the 9.3x63 case necked up to .411. Base was changed to .470 to use '06 brass.

How about a .358/375 Ruger, although I would like to see the 404/375 Ruger also.

Hallo

I`m new in this forum and read this interessting discussion.
I want to note that I have developed a wildcat, named .416 Raptor, that is based on the 30/06 case family. Since year 2000 this wildcat works great on all type of european and african game.
New is the .416 SAR (short action raptor) for all short actions (Remington, Ruger).
I produce 215grain hollow point solid bullets especially for this cartridge that work realy great.

Welcome, Mayer!

So does it headspace on the front of the case?

Most of the 450-400s I have slugged came out at either .408 or .410/.411. Very few .408s....

The .375 Ruger case voids most of the above mentioned 40 calibers...That case is supreme in a standard length action.
