.411 Cal. Bullet / 30R Blaser Brass

I like hubel458's (Ed Hubel) thinking on design, both
belted brass and rimmed examples. Straight sides that
taper down from base to mouth, and with base being
about .065" - .085" larger than mouth in rimmed cart-
ridges.

So has the above been done yet? If using 400 grainers,
(or darn close to that weight) can we get 2150 FPS in
20 inches of bbl in Ruger Mod 1 type action? Any similar
brass that's 3" long out there? (not 9.3x74R, it's base is
a little bit too small)

Thanks,

D/R Hunter

What would I do?
Well the 400 BPE or 400 Purdey never made the conversion to NE but there was a 400/375 NE and one of the first belted cases. You could do a 400-400/375 NE and that could get that velocity. You can do a 400 NE by necking up 9,3x74 brass in a #1. It's been done in its aboriginal form in .395" bullets but could be done in .410" bullets by reaming out a 405 win ruger #1 or reboring a 9,3x74. There is two cases that can claim to be 400 NE interestingly enough. A belted and rimless with two different case head diameters. If I were to redesign it today I would simply neck a 2.85" HH case to .410". Interestingly enough the 300 HH with its body taper carried forward would make a fabulous no neck straight belted cart just like the 404-375.

The 9.3 x 74 might work as guys are using
them for 410 brass. They'd have about .035"
taper total both sides without figuring the rim
which is more little more taper than my

Bertram makes a 405 3.25" case. Might be what you're looking for

Thanks guys. Just to be clear, focusing on present
project means rimmed only.
