Correct bullet placement, combined with the required depth of bullet penetration, results in an anchored animal...

Is that vs the full length 375 H&H Belted Mag opened up to fire

Just a little joke. Budump bump. I don't know the name but I am sure it has been done before. Maybe check Amoguide or municion.org. I like the 470 AR better but each has their own path to take.

Don’t recollect right now but I thought all these 2.5” belted magnum case wildcats were pretty well covered in Ackley’s 1st and 2nd books. I’ll have to dig mine out of the garage when its cooler in the morning…feels like about 90º out there right now…

It is actually called the .470 Capstick, not the .475. I have seen the .458 Win Mag necked up called the .470 Capstick Short, but they seem to be very rare.

The 458 Win Mag has a case 2 ½ “ long. The 475 Barnes Supreme is 2.8” long and the 475 Ackley is 2.850” long. The 458 Win would be just a short version of those two. What it would be called? I don't know.

How 'bout a "belted 470 AR"... with all the attendant arguments between belted and non belted cartridges????

Or just a 475/458 WM...or...???

470 Capstick Short seems reasonable....475/458 seems reasonable also or give it a custom name.

Nothing in Ammo guide or CH4D or any of my reference material.

A few inquiries for Capstick Short and 475/458 on Google.

QL ballistics puts it into the 5500 ftlbs plus zone with a 500 gr bullet...no slouch to be sure...EZ barrel swap on any mag size action I would think.

Interesting to say the least....WHY??? such little interest in an otherwise presumably potent cartridge?

Maybe the jump to 50 cal is more reasonable.

A belted rum case is my "Kill All" case for the .500" 500 Kill All. I have dies already. Could be good for a 470 but the 470 Accrel already does that.

"Belted" Rum??? New one on me. How'ja doit? Pressure form or turn...or? Sounds extremely interesting or tons of work. Cool Frowner

Lots of new .500/.510 cals coming out now on the Rum and Lapua/Rigby cases...cut down/blown out/opened up...etc.

A .475/458 makes for very little case taper...about 0.007"/side...maybe another reason it didn't go over all that well.

A .475 "Lapua" or Rum...or...would also be relatively quick and dirty jobs. Might think of adding a .475 barrel to my Lapua receiver...a .475 Lapua instead of a .510 Rigby. Might not slap me around so much. This getting old and wimpy sucks.

All the holes are being filled with new and interesting "'cats".

The dummies I have were formed buy a starter cut at the belt and use of dies by Ed Huble. I could make some by hand or have to buy the tooling to form the belt for large numbers to have Quality Cartridge make them. Very little taper but a fun and unique cart.

Belt forming can be tough...price wise for the forming dies and needing a good press... hydraulic preferably.

I fiddled with the RUM case a bit. Tried turning a 0.007" to 0.015" deep and 0.007" to 0.010"/side taper belt, then sectioned to see and measure. Wasn't too happy with the results on my knock-off manual Would have been much easier and definitely more precise with a CNC machine.

Decided it was easier for me to just go with the slightly larger based Lapua/Rigby cases.

Went back and read the posts on your 500 KA project...Hahahahahahahah...I'm about 5 years behind...AGAIN. Mad Frowner Big Grin

This game is always full of interesting and fun things to do...and having your own one-off makes the game much more fun along with the bragging rights. Cool Wink

The RUM case works fine for .500 caliber; Michael has 1 full-length MDM and 4 shortened B&M cartridges off this case.

The 338 Lapua Magnum or 416/450 Rigby cases are much better for the .510 caliber.

True, true...Michael's offerings are well represented and he has put the kybosh on some old wives tales about how to go about developing a viable wildcat, headspacing, etc. This information seems to be lost, misunderstood or unacceptable to some individuals, tho'.
