Bob MehaffeyRe: 338 Steyr?
Sounds like a winner to me Jeffe. Fred says the reamer will run around $180. I'll email you.

Bob MehaffeyFred338, I'll keep you posted. I'm pretty sure I'm going to do it. The 416 probably won't be finished until around Christmas so it will be after that.

jeffeossoBob,
I think that's a fine idea, if 6 gr smaller than a 338 win... I'll probably go in with you on the reamer... lets talk

.366torqueel jeffe, how did BM, make out on his project?
25 June 2007, 02:32
Bob Mehaffey366, I had a stroke and the project was put on hold. I'm back up and running again. I found a Rem 600 that I can put a 358 Win bbl that I bought AR on and as soon as I finish that I'm going to try the 338/376 Steyr.

boom stickgood news woodjack...
soon there will be factory brass for all the 284 line of cats minus the 284 and 6.5 that could be gotten easly but all the others right up to 416 and a 284 basic that will be 2.6" long for wildcatting...start creating the perfect wildcat on the 284 basic. i also convinced him to make some unrebated and he will make some 10.75x68 if you buy it.
as you know the 284 and steyr share the same casehead.
i think a 2" 500 casehead will be great for the perfect bore 6.5 true short action. just rechamber a 243, 260 rem, 308, 338 federal or 358 win for a fatter case and the same down. same as a couple above but no funny bolt face size

WoodjackBoomS,
Im interested to know if an
unrebate basic case(2.60") will come to be,how much will it cost and will its long term supply be reliable?...

quality cart is going to make some and i asked about an unrebated version and he said he could do that...he would set aside however many are wanted. he would have the tooling so it would be a matter of making phone call and ordering it. the casehead he said will run between .499/.498
he is going t make 10.75x68 on it...
the 64 is a tad shorter and a tad fatter... i dont know what an actual piece measures but it is supposed to me .507"
forming the cases to your spec with a headstamp will be the same cost as the blank basic so send him a print and he will make it on order.
so come up with your supermagnum proprietary cart y'all...

Thought about it,
2.60" unrebated case,somethin simple like a .338cal, .350+ neck, shoulder about .460"/25deg...actually, even a nice layedback shldr of 15deg.would be fine(like 376styer)No,nothin special to most,but nice feeding,and an aerodynamic 225premium2700fps not over 60kpsi., special enough 4me.
Thinking about it, what bugs me most about the short mags is not there fat ass base, but the lack of body taper I prefer. Id like the 300saum more than the 300wsm,but would like it much more if it tapered more like a 250sav. if you know what i mean.

jeffeossoagain (sigh) 9.3x64 .. .500 unrebated

DusterAs soon as the Alpine Timberline action shows up in Sept, we will finish putting together our latest little project. Hopefully the 6.5/376 Steyr will be as cool as I've imagined.
6.5/376 just sounds cool, doesn't it?
