this could work in several variants...

thoughts on cutting a rim and extractor groove and cutting a belt in the 577 cases and trimming or no trimming to various lengths 3" 2.9" 2.85" 2.65" ect...

has it been done?

keep the 416 rigby oal and get it to work in a c.z.

now that will be an awesome elephant slayer...in a bolt you will not be so limited in preasure.

Geez boomie, have you never heard of the .585 Nyati? Ross Seyfried? It was based on .577 NE cases with rim turned down and extractor groove cut ... came in different lengths and different rebates.

You forgot the rebated rim part. rotflmo

the nyati has a shoulder and no belt...

i too am not a rebate fan...what is the largest you can go on a c.z. bolt face?

using the 577 dies is a better idea imho.

Unfortunately, the .505 Gibbs would suffer from .400 Whelan problems when necked up to .585", as in, not enough shoulder to headspace on. Yes, I understand you are talking about cutting a belt in, but I guess that sort of makes me all tingly . . .

You can't just cut a belt on a 577
case after cutting rim and extractor groove.
You have use process of starting belt shoulder
then swage case to new shape as I did with
the belted cases I make and the 577BME
shown above.Ed
