rethinking the steyr

from what i gather the steyr is the attempt to max out midsize actions without too much modifications and to use in the steyr line of guns...basicly a shortened 9,3x64 case with a 375 topper kinda like a fat 8x60

above is the 8x60 mauser

it was my musings that led me to believe that 95 grains capacity is ideal for pushing the 300 grain 375 pills @ 2500 fps. if you fatten the steyr with the rum brass you get with my estimation about 95 grains capacity.

a 2.3"ish rum case is ideal for mid to large bore calibers.

since rum cases are plentiful and cheap to extend this theory and go fatter you would have a decent cart.

the saum is great for true short actions. the wsm's are good for semi short actions and the 2.3" or 2.35" rum case is good for a minimal mod military surplus mauser. heck even rechambering an 8mm mauser seems neet. the bolt would need opening but the only length actions to be neglected is the medium mauser.

has anyone done this before?
is a fat steyr interesting to anyone? 12% more capacity

BoomS,
I was thinking something similar a while ago HERE.
It began on the x68s case, but ended up focusing on the 404j&RUM case.

aaah...great catters think alike...

what about shortening the 375 dakota dies and using rum brass and the .532" shell holder?...easy also could be done with the other dakotas...

save on the brass, use std .532" bolt and use altered dakota dies.

that is a sweet looking cat...

l to r 9,3x62 375-404x59 and 9,3x70

sooo you could use rum brass and a std bolt if it mattered to you.

what was the capacity and the shoulder angle???

Why not a 60mm/2.3" on the 375 Ruger?

good as well and easy to do. i have a few threads on that...someone named them boomcats in my honor Big Grin easy to make a headstamp alteration too. but imho the bother is best put into the short and semi short actions since it wont be that hard to get the mauser98's to do the original 375 ruger.

I dont know the capacity. .300saum is 1.53" from base to shoulder....375-ShortRUM(2.35") wil be roughly 1.83" in that measure, so very crudely guessing, cap. will be 300saum +20%???
Shoulder angle: 30deg.
