Capacity would be real close to the .264 Thor or a 6.5STW. Lot of blast for a small gain.

As Boom said think loooonnng barrel. Based on the small gain a 300Rum gives over a 300wmag unless you have a long barrel I would think a smaller bore would give even less gain.

As usual just my $.02

Z-Hat has that reamer, forgot the name. But they took their 35 Yukon (35/300RUM 2.5") and necked it down. Very fast with a proper length barrel. 26" MINIMAL, the longer the better

6.5 Ultracat?

Looking at the sight I'm not sure as to the length. I think he has a couple number wrong. His Reamer list has it at 2.85" for the case.

I would think a 5.6-300 Weatherby would get you close. A 6.5 Ultra or 6.5 STW should get you there. If they don't look at Lazzeroni rounds. I am sure he has something that is just what you are looking for.

You know, a good bet might be a 375 Ruger just necked down. Thats one less step then from the RUM brass since you wouldnt have to shorten THEN neck down.

The Ultracats are full length RUM cases. It might not be named or listed, but I THINK I talked to Fred about the 2.5" RUM 6.5...I really want to say he mentioned he had already necked down his 358 Yukon (which is on the reamer list) down to the dimensions of the original post.

I had a similar idea (and I even have case drawings! PM me if you're interested) about shortening the RUM case to x57/Steyr length in a standard length magazine in order to have the room to seat the 140 and 160 6.5's out far enough to not eat up powder space. Also did drawings of this same case in .323 and .416! The idea was to have fat cases with the room to seat bullets of very high SD out far to gain powder space and velocity. Very strong penetrators.

Steffen-

You may also want to try the 6.5 WSM. I have a couple of write ups and some data on my website, http://www.hunt-productions.com

I don't know about that last 81 FPS. However, I believe you can get an "honest" 3200 from the .264 Win. Mag. from a 26" barrel. 66 grains of H4831 or Norma MRP should come close.....

+1

Steffen-

I am not sure what powders you have available to you in Norway, but a really slow powder, and I mean a really slow powder in a .264 Winchester Mag should get you there. I think something slower than H4831 and I am not sure of MRP (although, MRP is a great powder).

Stonecreek turned me on to a mil-surp powder, WC-872.

A 6.5 WSM will get it done. Best to turn up a couple barrels at the get go. They are only going to last 6 to 800 rounds. I have a "short"
6.5WSM reamer (long neck) w/.295 neck. A 6.5 WSM w/.294 neck. And a 6.5 RSAUM w/.295 neck.
All are set up for the 142,140 match pills.

Also in the drawer is a 40 degree, long neck 284 Win and a long neck 7/300WSM-40 degree.
I just love those guys who want those barrel burners!!

I think the good ole 264 will get you at or close to where you want to be using a 26" tube, and do it with much less powder, recoil and less work. However, if being different, burning more powder and you like pain, then go for it. It will also be much harder on barrels. Lou

i gotta ask, if the 6.5 is awesome with HEAVY bullets (it is) why do people shoot the same bullet SD that are easily available in 270 and 7mm bullets?

why do I ask? .264, vs .277 vs .284 ...
and a 270 and 7mm wsm already exist that will give you 3100 with a good SD bullet, you can buy the whole gun off the shelf, and $25 dies?

I KNOW i poopoo a lot of wildcat "ideas" .. but soley because IN MY OPINION they don't do anything / solve any problem that hasn't been done a couple ways before.

Oh, yeah, and the name of the round is the 6.5 AR, that i designed in what, 2005? Looked at it hard, decided there was zero gain/reason/better feeding/better action / cheaper brass to justify it over my 257 roberts
