Using the 8x68s case,how does one create a wildcat that is;
Cal. .375
Neck .375
length 2.36
Shoulder .505
base to shoulder 1.90
Shoulder angle?...appropriate to above dimensions.

A straight forward way to do it:get

a trim to length die.

a reamer dimensioned so you don't have to turn the neck( if posible and I think it is)The reamer people will help guide you in the design.

a set of dies, one being of course a FL die.

a shell holder.

a little help from this group.

a healthy check book for barrel, action,stock, gunsmith, handeling and shipping.

Woodjack What you are asking for sounds very similar to the new 375 Ruger. Your suggestions will result in case a little shorter. I don't know why you would want to go the expensive route with cases and custom dies etc when factory case will soon be availible.

I built a 257 wildcast on this case. We called it the 257 Banshee. The parent 6.5x68S case is 2.654" oal, why shorten it? The FL wildcat feeds perfectly thru standard length actions, and you will lose too much case capacity (IMHO)shortening it. Why not just go with a 375 on the 350 Rem Mag case? There are a lot of converted 25-06's running around the country, even today.

Bartsche is correct, I am seeing what is possible with shorter/intermediate cases(load length 3.15"),with still very reasonable body tapers and shoulder angles. see below, Anything tickle your fancy?

Do you see any problem with forming the two 404 base rounds you see here?




The one in the middle is a similar 375/404(2.35"case)variation. flanked by
9.3x62 & 9.3x70.

If you want that in 416, 458, or 470



3.35 OAL...

taking these as a basis, brass forming is trivial. I would use the RUM brass, due to larger case AND cheaper brass.

Thanks Jeff, RUM brass makes sense,only .005" larger at the base, not a problem.
Id like to stick to 3.15 oal.
.375cal is my initial enquire, but do see room for a .416 version.

it would pretty much be just a clean up of the chamber and thats it. the boltface and barrel need no chang'in
