how many here have this one? was thinking of a stainless 300 wsm browning blr conversion. i was thinking of the 375-338 in the blr but according to browning this is a no no. dont know if it is b.s. or they just dont want to be liable or both. so i am looking at other avenues and came accross this one. i found a shot show special stainless 300 wsm and was considering the conversion. what do you guys think? 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. The 375/338 is to long for the action. The 375/300wsm should give you 2450fps with a 300gr bullet if the action will take the pressure. Don't know about feeding. DB Bill aka Bill George

I think Broom stick meant a 375 Taylor, a necked up 338 winnie.

I'd stick to the .375 Taylor idea personally..... Not sure why Browning poo poo'd the idea.....there's no difference in the cartridges .338 mag and .375 Taylor that the rifle will ever know. Have you asked a smith that can do the work to quote the job for you? I assume that you've forewarned that that rifle in .375 Taylor will kick the living snot out of you.????? /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Well, the .375 taylor would be some sort of short Magnum I would think, except that is is not fat and has a belt. Other than that, it's an outstanding wildcat.

the tech at browning said there would be too much preasure but didnt go into the exact reasons why, he sounded like he was being inconvenienced by my call...jerk. anyway, i said they were the same preasure carts and he again sounded anoyed by my question. is he thinking that pushing a larger caliber is going to create more preasure? maybe he is the one who needs some learning. i wanted to go stainless and if i go the short mag direction i could get a stainless shot show special short mag laminated stock nickel receiver one and be about 50 to 75 fps slower than the 375-338. not bad...yes i realize the recoil would be stiff but my 45-70 guide gun is my favorite so i dont immagine it could be much worse than heavy +P in that. and sabot... its BOOM stick...i dont belong to a coven 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. This is the wildcat forum! I say get yourself a 375-6.53x Scramjet x2.5! AKA 375 Newton. Seriously, the WSM may be too think for the barrel tenon, front ring, and bolt lugs. I don't know. If it CAN handle the .555" dia case, I'd go with a 375 Dakota. The stress and bolt thrust will be the same as the WSM (a little less, actually) but the powder room and muzzle speed will be greater per MOP.

The thrust the action will resist is the same with a .375 Taylor as with a .300 Win Mag. Get a smith to quote you a new barrel in .375 taylor. It's all you have to do.....a simple change for a smith that is capable of rebarreling a BLR. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I'm not at all familiar with California.....open the yellow pages there and get quotes. I have a friend that does it as a business....I'll ask him if he wants the job.....I don't do any smithing for hire....strictly as a hobby. lemme guess barrel and contour to match original...$300 chambering reamer and labor............$250 rebluing and testing...................$150 shipping...............................$30 a little over $700 is my guess.....let me know what you're quoted. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." This thread has been quiet for a while, but what the hell. Check out Pac-Nor barrels. They can do it for you for around $550 I believe. I have used their barrels and they have been good for me.

OK, I'm confused. Did the smith tell you not to chamber the 375-300 WSM in it, or the 375 Chetfield-Taylor? If they are already chambered in the 300WSM and the 338 WinMag, there is no reason you can't change the caliber in an otherwise similar cartridge. I didn't realize they already chambered the WSM. Whoever you talked to either misunderstood or was talking out his ass.

it seems the most smack down that would fit the catagory i need is the lazzeroni hell cat (375) but i dont know if it will fit in the blr. man that would be a killer but to get an extre 100 fps i dont know if i would go there but i guess i could start off with the 375 wsm have you guys heard much abouth the 475 lilmufu? 577 BME 3"500 KILL ALL 358 GREMLIN 404-375 *we band of 45-70ers* (Founder) Single Shot Shooters Society S.S.S.S. The WSm won't get you anything over the C-T. Except more case-forming issues and higher bolt-thrust, more expensive dies and reamer maybe. If there's any point to the WSM it is so it will fit. But if you can already get the gun you like chambered in 300 WM, just rebarrel that and be done! If you like faster, the 375 Dakota or similar design (wouldn't cost any more than a WSM wildcat) would get you lots more room over either, with a little less bolt thrust than the WSM, and nowhere near the Lazzeroni. Check out the ballistics. Me think you likey.
