AntlersLargest caliber .308 Wildcat
I'm curious if any 40 caliber or up wildcats have been developed by necking up the .308.

boom stickwhat are you hunting...rabbits?
the 308-338 was a popular threaqd most being negative so cant see much going in your favor of support here. the best 40 cal nearest relative is the 411 hawk...try that

jeffeosso358 was factory
the 375 win (lets not have a huge dicussion around it) is about the same base and a straight case.
the 411 hawk is a .411 bullet on the 30-06 ... probably COULD be done on the 308...

tiggertateSure would make for nice short bolt throw, eh?

boom stickthe wsm makes a better case for this kind of wildcat all the way up to 458 with the 416 and 375 being the best

Paul HThe largest you could go with a shoulder still to reliably headspace would be 40 cal, ie .410" bullets, you could probably go .416" but there simply aren't any suitable bullets for the velocities you'd be operating at.
Another option for a short length action and using the .473" bolthead would be the .284 win case, though I'm thinking that a .458" really wouldn't have enough of a shoulder to headspace on, though it just might duplicate the .450 marlin.

I think the 7.5 Swiss is 30 cal and that case would allow you to expand to.429dia. bullet. I think 45 would be pushing it the same as the .284 case.

boom sticko.k. now you are making sense...the 35 cal, the 375 win bullets and the 405 bullets are designed for lower velocities so that would be a good anti personel up close round.

in fact i claim these rounds as my own proprietary carts...35, 375 and 411 boom stickers
go for it dude!

HHI812I'm getting a 12" .338-08 and .375-358 barrel fitted to my Pachmayr Dominator. It now has a 12" barrel in 6BR, and the original 14" factory .35 Rem barrel, reamed to .358 Win. And after asking my gunsmith what other chamberings he can do, he said he has done also .410, .416, and .452", utilizing both the .308 and 30-06 full length cases. Being that I have only a .308 bolt face, other considerations are using the .284 in the various calibers, going all the way up to .475 caliber, or the .50AE full length case, with .308 rim size, all the way up to .500". I might be getting too carried away????
