9,3x66 drawing
follow my logic...
the 30-06 casehead is .470, the 9,3x66 casehead is .4775.
being that there is .005" or 5 thou diff between the 411 and 416 there should be the 2 more thou better shoulder on the 416-9,3x66 than the 411 hawk.
the 416-9,3x62 should get 2150 with 400 grainers in a 24" barrel and close to 2350 with 350 grainers.
or... the 411-9,3x66 will have 5 thou better shoulder than the 411 hawk and be about identical in performance as the 411 express.
should just be a barrel swap and rail adjustment no???
what do you think of this???

Idaho Sharpshooterit should work as you say, but why not use the 9,3 x 64 Brennecke? Fifteen years ago I found this case rummaging thru RWS's display at the SHOT Show. It has a .492" rim size, mikes about .506" at the base and is about 2.52" long. I cut a reamer and made myself a 2 1/2" long 6-284. Called it the 6MMedusa. It would work even better as a big bore.
Check it out in your cartridge drawings book.
It would be no great task to make a cutter to take the rim down to '06 size, and it would provide a serious performance increase over the .411 Hawk...similiar to what a 6-284 does over a 243. Kick it out with a 35-degree shoulder and go get 'em!!

boom stickrich...the only advantage here is if you wanted an extra round that the 06 casehead gives.
jeffe...so you are saying it CAN be done (so i am not crazy or crazier or stupider than normal) and it will duplicate the aagaard but still keep an extra one down below...

should be fine in a 1895 winchester rem 7600 pump if it could holt together or any 06 semi-auto, browning blr or bolt.
i think the 350's @ 2350 is more than enough medicine for anything outside of the big 5 and borderline for them.
o.k. they need a name now...
something that honors finland for the case...
411 and 416 boomfinland

its that small backwards but more handsome tiny island country to the south of finland

that will have to do for now

white bisonboom stick: That should work out OK...but I would opt for the .416 Newton...now that Marc Jamison is going to make new Newton Brass. If you neck up a .30 or .35 Newton to .416...you will have, essentially all the attributes of the very fine .416 Taylor...but without a belt. The gunsmith will need to open up the bolt face, adjust the mag follower..but minor operations.
I've done it & it seems to be a good idea so far...
also, as we chatted before...could go to a straight .400 Newton (.412" bore). The old data gives 3,042 fps with a 300 gr. bullet (28" bbl.
length). Still using the great .30 Newton case as a basis.
Best Regards,
Tom

boom stickthanks for the tips tom...
the newton will be better performance wise granted...this thought was for the guns that can only handle 06 size brass, if you wanted minimal gun mods or if you wanted an extra round down. the 1895 winchester or browning blr would be awesome for this project. 300 and 350 gr 416 (360 gr for north forks) would be wonderful in this rig.

analog_peninsulaUh, doesn't this just re-invent the .411 Hawk, with more obscure componants?

boom stickyes it does!
the 411 can be longer in the 66 brass but you can have a 6 thou better (3 per side) shoulder or go up to 416 which you cant (per fred zeglin) in the 06 brass. if you want a longer 411 in an 06 gun or go to 416 this is a way to do it.
that is the beauty of this

boom stickyou can buy 66 brass from
www.z-hat.combuy 300 pieces and you should be good for a loooooooong time.
the added benefit of the 66 brass is it is a high preasure case so you can pump it up if you want but it is not required.
