STW_fan358 WSSM
Im looking for someone who can give me lengths on 358 rifle bullets. I just got a olympic arms 223 wssm upper for an ar-15 and had to run and neck a case up to 358. Now im trying to find out what will fit in the magazine. Anyone have a 250 gr they could measure or a 180 or 200 even? Or all of the above? I'd rather have pointed bullets than round nose but any data would be helpfull.
Thanks

jeffeossothe wssm line is ESSENTAILLY the same capacity as the 308 based round.
the 22/243 is about 53gr, about the same for the 223wssm (55gr)...
in most cases, the wssm is slightly larger than the same caliber on a 308 case.
I would refer to 358 win loading for "what it would do" info

STW_fanit can stand about a .950 bullet before it starts getting into the powder space.
Maybe 2350 fps.

ConSome of the .35cal projectiles I've "rough" measured:
Woodleigh 250grRN: 1.135"(0.385" base to cannelure)
Woodleigh 310grRN: 1.35" (0.520" b to c)
Rem 200gr CLRN: 0.918" (0.310" b to c)
Rem 200gr PSPCL:1.025" (0.45 b to c)
Nosler 225gr Partition: 1.170"
With the "to cannelure" measurements you should be able to work out what COL you'll get. Let us know if you build one as its one that intrigues me ... plus WSSM actions are cheap brand new as they cant sell.
Cheers...

STW_fanbig thanks con the cannelure measurements help alot. im not sure if im going to do it or not. dies and reamer are the killer for me.
Im kinda interested in seeing what it would do with pistol bullets and or rifle bullets.
You know im going to build it on an olympic arms ar-15 upper if i do it. I have a wssm bolt action i can check out the mag length on it and see what will fit if your intrested in that.

gumboot458That Is Cool......,,,.,., I,ve been thinking the 358/300 short RUM would be ideal .. The AR 15 reciever is lighter than than the AR10 isn,t it ???? My wife,s new bear rifle I can see it now !!!!!!!.. How many in the magizine ? Thanks
.If it can,t be grown , its gotta be mined ....

STW_fanIm not sure how many it would hold. The ar15 is shorter and lighter but for a wssm you have to use the olympic arms upper. it has a different bolt/carrier and barrel extension for the larger case and the higher pressure. The ar-15 COL wouldnt do you much good using anything longer than what i have there. It looks like even using the 223 wssm brass as a parent still would limit me to a 180 gr bullet. Any longer it would be a single shot or you'd lose some case capacity.
