Is the 375/45/70 like Gary Reeders 375 #2. I have been looking for info on this round. Have you used this round much?

Very nice looking cartridges, boom stick. Are these your design, or did you use available reamers and dies? The .375 could be one of the .38-56 Improved designs, but the .30 is new. (Well, for the most part it is. I read Winchester worked on a 30 caliber from the .45-70 case before coming out with the .30-30. The work culminated in the .33 WCF. Regardless, that 30 of yours is spiffy.)

here is a quote from the creator of these...i know it is a nono to link to another forum so i will just post his thoughts and method. i floated the idea and this guy already has done it. here is his quote

"necking 45-70 brass down to 30 cal is not easy. i have done it in successive steps and it's alot of work. i have 308/45-70 8mm/45-70 7mm-45-70, 6.5/45-70 and 25/45-70 cases formed up to see how much it takes to make them using 284 win wildcat dies.

25/45-70 is extremely hard to make and has about a 40% case loss in forming with the dies i have available but it would be an awsome round witha 117gr remington rn corelokt which has the cannelure in the right spot.

the 30/444 is too long to function through the marlin, and for it to function through the marlin the case must be shortened which will effectively just give you the 307win or 308 marlin.

the 284 case might work if shortened to 2.07" and a 35 rem bolt used in a 45-70 reciever, magtube. the 284 case is heavy and even though it's effectively a rebated rim 45-70 case necked down it has about 8-10 grains less capacity than 45-70 starline cases necked down to the same caliber.

it would be alot of work to convert a marlin to use the 284 case like i said you would need the 35 rem bolt in a 45-70 reciever and a custom barrel as i am not sure the barrel threads on the 308 marlin are the same as the 45-70 reciever. if they are then just a rechamber of the factory 308 barrel would be needed along with the 35 rem bolt and 45-70 reciever.

all in all necking down the 45-70 to 30 cal would be alot easier especially if proper case forming dies were used and the brass fireformed. it would push a 170gr nosler to 2700-2800fps which is basically an 06 in a lever gun.

also necking down the 450marlin case would do the same thing using 30/350mag dies to form the cases.

i am suprised there isn't a 35/450marlin outhtere yet as the cases are easy to make using just 350 mag dies.

a 348/45-70 would would be nice too as the 45/70 case is easily necked down in 348 win dies to form them.

the 8mmx284/45-70 or the 8X52 siamese mauser case would make real nice one too on the marlin and use either 321 dia 32 special bullets or .323 diameter 170 gr rn remington or hornady 8mm bullets depending on which barrel diameter you use. .321 diameter bulets shoot real good out of 8mm barrels as i have done that with my 8x57 and my 8 rem mag. the 170 gr speer .321" shoots 1.25" groups at 100yds in my remington 8 mag at a velocity of 3300 fps but that's way too fast for that bullet for game.

the marlins are really wonderful guns and worht making wildcats on unlike the win 94. for some reason the win just doesn't appeal to me and doesn't seem like it would be as easy to make custom calibers on and get excellent results like the marlin always gives

another hairbrained idea is either a 32special ackley or 32-40 ackley on 30-30 guns but they are not needed as the 307 or 308 marlin are better

my own wildcat the 375/45-70 or my version of the 38-56 IMP is perfect for the marlin. i have a Siamese mauser in that caliber right now and it's a real thumper in the saimese and would still be pretty awsome in the marlin even though you couldn't load it as hot as the siamese"
