Anyone seen or heard of a 450 AK chambered in a Marlin? I know John Ricks did one for himself, but it cost him a buttload to get working, since the COL is actually longer than the Marlin is made for. I'm wondering how that round would do just seated to 2.55" or so. With a nominal 1.75" body, most 400g bullets would dip into the powder room maybe a tneth of an inch, and 500g would definitley cut into it, but not enought o call it a pistol round. I know someone with a 30" oct 45 bbl, just thinking on what to do with it. As obscure as the 45 AK is, one could make their own 45-348, improved a bit and shoulder even further back to make more sense of the geometry. One could also use the WSM case at this point I suppose. The 458-Novesky (?) is about 2.10" long, but his data is useless here, since he has a 16.5" bbl and loads out to 2.90" on some rounds. (Anyone care to QL a 2.1050" case with 94g water capacity, seated to 2.55" with 400 and 500g bullet going out of 30" of bbl? Lead flat nose if you could, would give a best-case scenario.) How about the .458x2" [aka 458 American] with the belt or turn the belt off in a lathe? MM

One can modify the Marlin 1895 action to cycle about a 2.7" round which would allow the 450 Alaskan to shine. Dave Clay would be able to do this conversion. He almost got the 2.75" 50-100 WCF to work in a Marlin 1895. David Clay DRC Armaments 4201 E. Renfro Rd. Alvarado, TX 76009 1-817-783-6099 It is rather curious to recommend a .458x2" American as the 450 Marlin is readily available for the Marlin 1895. You learn something new everyday whether you want to or not.
