MoreBS444B belted and blown out 376 Steyr
Time to start profiling the blank.
I have an old Stevens 200, that has a 2.880" magazine.
The case will end up at 2.320", that is .100 longer than a 444. But, it loads with 444 dies!
Just an other of my belting projects.

HuviusNow THAT is cool!
So, are you squeezing the parent case down to the web and then turning the front of the belt in a lathe?

MoreBSIt is a three die process, two reducing dies,[Rockchucker] then a belt seater on the arbor press.
Final touch up on the lathe.
If I did some improvements to the seater, you wouldn't need a lathe.
After it is belted, then it is blown out with cream of wheat.

boom stickHow fast do you project to get a 400 grain bullet?

Should be just a touch slower than a Modern 45-70, best guess.
A 400 grain Hawk at 1950-2000......?

boom stickWould be interesting as a .435” (425WR) version. You could squish down those Woodleigh .435” bullets down to 430 to fit your current set up if you like as well but if loaded to nominal bullet protrusion and keeping the OAL down to 3 inches that could be a pretty potent package about the same power as a 400 Whelen in a short action.

jeffeossoas steyr brass (one of my personal fav calibers) is hard to find, might i suggest turning the belt off an hh case, reducing to roughly .510, and then leaving the rim .532?

MoreBS2000 with a 400 is 3550 ft #s of energy, that should be do-able.

I like it.
As for a 423/4/5: I hate those.
I like the 40 calibers kept at .410/1. No reason for the others to exist in my world.

That would make a heavy duty case.
The Steyr case does not need neck reaming or turning. A 45-90 case might work also.
OH, the rim is rebated to .470"

MoreBSTakes 3 dies on the "Chucker", now it is ready for final finish on the lathe with a belt and rebated .470 head.

MoreBSThe short one had the belt removed, then belted!
The lathe is tied up right now, so the finish trim will have to wait.
BUT, Do you know what this means?????
We now have a BELTED 400 WHELEN!

Surprised that the 376 Steyr brass is heavier.
There is a slight bulge in the neck at the base of the bullet in the 7 mag brass.I did cut .260" off the Mag brass.
Loading is easy with Hornady 444 dies.

jeffeossoWOW! talk about taking an idea and running with it -- a couple of your pics aren't coming through .. the "takes 3 dies" and "the short one" posts - might be a permissions issues on your drive.
10,9x58 !!!
btw, a bolthead change on your stevens is only a couple bucks to reduce some machining steps, if you like

MoreBSTried to fix them, Google sharing doesn't always share!
Had not thought of a Steyr bolt head.

jeffeossowhile I am certain you could have a .500 made, the .532 is an off the shelf part

Had not thought of making it a belted rimmed, I have a Mag head. May have to see how it feeds.
