Grenadier.405 Long (a la Lott) - if such a thing existed. For single shot and double rifles. Just lengthen the chamber of your .405 Win Ruger No. 1 and there you go.

Yes I thought of that a while ago and thought it would be sweet. A hotloaded 3" case could get you 450/400 factory velocity.

jeffeossoNuttin as the 45/120 is already perfect
You would end up with something very much like the 400 Purdey...but a century late

boom stick38-90 with 375 bullets?
Yes the 400 Purdey as I mentioned above would be fun in a smokeless form or a real 400 Nitro Express. I would use the 411 bullets over the Purdey .406" bullets.

Idaho SharpshooterBoomie,
Already been done. The 3.25" cases did not exist when the 38-90 was offered by Winchester in 1891. The case was 2.92X" from Win. I own one. The rifles and ammunition were sold in Europe, and that is where the 9,3x74 came from. They simply necked the case down .013". Check with Dave at CH4D sometime. He had a DR built and that is how he did his. Mine is on a Shiloh M74.
It is a neat cartridge in a SS, five people here in the Boise area have had my gunsmith build one using my reamer.

If I was going to shoot cast bullets it would be necked all the way down to .408.
If I was going to shoot jacketed bullets it would probably be necked all the way up to .416.

.366torqueNeck it up to 416 and shoot 350 TTSXs out of a 28" No.1.

Bill/OregonWell for heaven's sake Rich, how about more details and some photos of this Sharps you have been hiding from us? How's it shoot?
There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn’t.

BigFiveJackIt would be the same as a .375 H&H FM but I'd say the 350 grain
bullet in the rimmed case is an added feature. And isn't the 405
Basic brass much easier to come across than the British 375 Flanged
Magnum? TYPICALLY how do the two cases compare price wise? With-
out a bottle neck wouldn't the case life likely be longer?

Idaho SharpshooterBill,
it is accurate, but inconsistent with black powder. in '09 I shot one of my best scores at Quigley. Last year, I shot my worst scores with the exact same load.
I am going to stick the barrel on my Steve Earle #1 Wesson LR action (looks like a farqy)check
www.SteveEarleProducts.com and put the 40-65 barrel back on the Shiloh.
Aside from the Stevens 44 1/2 they are the prettiest SS action I have ever seen.

Low WallThis is the same brass that I use in my 40-90 Sharps Straight..
I don't know if this stretched brass will stand up to high pressure loading..
One of my projects is to find out, but that won't be until I acquire Quick Load and finish several other projects..
