That would be good for moderate pressure loads. The screw on rims we put on 12ga FH were from half hard brass, a bit stronger than what they swaged on, and if case extracted hard you could scuff them a little and if they needed hard resizing, bend them a little.Which is why I had a top push rod on press to shove cases back out of the sizing die. Us old guys who were shooting back after WW II remember when getting new brass cases was almost impossible and we had to scrounge for everything. Swaging a rim or belt onto another case was not a common practice, but it was not rare either. It was also possible to take a case such as the 30-06 and swage the body down to form a belt ala the 240 Weatherby. The same for lathe turning rimmed or belted brass down to smaller dimensions. Screw on case heads using the steel WW II cases was also an old trick. I have several such cases in my collection. The ready availibilty of new brass by the many manufacturers today makes all of those old tricks as obsolete as us shooters who used them. Ray Arizona Mountains | |||
