Gentlemen Has someone made a wildcat based on 404 Jeffery necked down to 416, without improveing the case design, that will fit a standard mauser? Cheers / JOHAN

Yes, it's called the 416 Howell. It was written up in the late 70's early 80's in Handloader. I have copies of the articles, and ended up purchasing Ken's reamer, which I ended up trading to John Ricks. I'm pretty sure John built a few. __________________________________________________ The AR series of rounds, ridding the world of 7mm rem mags, one gun at a time.

What are the advantages/disadvantages between opting for .416 Taylor or a .416 based on the 404 when converting a standard Mauser action? _________________________________ AR, where the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history become the nattering nabobs of negativisim.

The advantage of the 416 Taylor is brass, chambering reamer and reloading dies are easy to come by. The disadvage is you are maxed out with a 400 gr @ 2300-2350 fps. The advantage of the shortened 404 is you can achieve 400 gr @ 2400 fps, or a bit more. Either round requires opening up the bolt face and extractor, as well as magazine, feed rail and ramp mods. __________________________________________________ The AR series of rounds, ridding the world of 7mm rem mags, one gun at a time.
