416Jeffery?
Gentlemen

Has someone made a wildcat based on 404 Jeffery necked down to 416, without improveing the case design, that will fit a standard mauser?

Cheers

Yes, it's called the 416 Howell. It was written up in the late 70's early 80's in Handloader. I have copies of the articles, and ended up purchasing Ken's reamer, which I ended up trading to John Ricks. I'm pretty sure John built a few.

What are the advantages/disadvantages between opting for .416 Taylor or a .416 based on the 404 when converting a standard Mauser action?

The advantage of the 416 Taylor is brass, chambering reamer and reloading dies are easy to come by. The disadvage is you are maxed out with a 400 gr @ 2300-2350 fps.

The advantage of the shortened 404 is you can achieve 400 gr @ 2400 fps, or a bit more.

Either round requires opening up the bolt face and extractor, as well as magazine, feed rail and ramp mods.
