boom stickmedium bore wssm's!
being these carts have the capacity to push medium bore bullets up to 375...why not have say a 30, 338, 358, 9,3 and 375 wssm????!!!!
a 358 in a micro action would be kinda neet and such a great packing woods gun...

Bent FossdalWell, Boom, have you asked yourself why?
Why is this better than the .308 family? Really?

boom stickthe only advantage on this is to have the wssm action over the 08 action.
13 February 2007, 04:42
jeffeossohmm, and I thought the wssms where the ulimate chance to spend alot of effort to rework the capacity of a 308......
13 February 2007, 04:50
boom stickwell you can get an even more efficient 358 win in an even smaller action!
take an on sale wssm, rebore, use a separate neck/throat reamer in cal of choice (358) and have an uber small/light packing rifle

Woodjackwhy dont you neck up a few cases to 338,358,375 to show us what deyL

500MagManI have thought of it I have a 25 WSSM I am going to try and rechaber for eather 6.5 WSSM or .284 WSSM I did think of .308 but was realy leaning towds the .284, but if I could find dies I would consider the .338 the gun is just being fierd for fun right now I am willing to try some thing if some could find me a barrle blank and reamers and dies I would do somthing in that .338 range.....

jnc91My smith is working on a 9.3 WSSM. He has shown me a dummy round. It looks quite impressive. He is building it on a shortened P17 action. He estimates that it will duplicate the 9.3x62.
Should be lots of fun to shoot.

papaschmudAs I may have mentioned here before, the idea of a medium on the WSSM case has had my attention for some time now. I have necked the cases all the way to 375 with Hornady ellipticle expanders with very little if any forming problems.
To my way of thinking, the 35 and 30 are the least impracticle. I said it that way on purpose: None of these cartridges are needed in any way shape or form. If they beat their '08 counterparts by any appreciable number they'd be doing good. That said, I still like the 30 and 35 as you can seat 180's and 225's respectively to work through the Winchester mag box and not be but halfway down the shoulder. The other upside of these two is that you can buy bullets designed for their achievable speeds. Can't say as I have $600 that I'd like to flush right now though.

6.5BRSSK made a 338 Whisper, original is 7BR case, and it did
http://www.reloadersnest.com/query_bw.asp?CaliberID=389&BulletWeight=180hey 180 at 2550 will do whitetail well, sounds about like a 300 savage or even 308 win with same bullet wt.
It would be a 200 yd deer thumper, nothing practical about it, just a mild recoiling round, standard 308 head size, and reliable killing ctg on deer.
A 358 version on 7BR case would give pistol bullet options for cheap practice (help offset the project costs) and would be more performance than a 357 max in a bolt carbine, if one desired.
Now a WSSM case, that would 'kick it up a notch!' for sure.

CRUSHERtake a look at 45 wssm still has a shoulder to headspace on and that is better than the 308 case. use 451 pistol bullets for good deer thumper or 458 45/70 bullets at around the same velo or better than 45/70 in a short handy rifle it is a good concept

boom stickcrusher....
no, you use a short action with a 3" mag box and shoot 458 win mag with 45-70 bullets...
do it on a 450 marlin blr
28 March 2007, 06:29
boom stickor get a 358 rem mag and shoot 358 norma with short 200 grain rifle bullets or pistol bullets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
28 March 2007, 06:47
CRUSHERI already have a 458 barnes 1.75 in a short action mauser but I like this idea better

WoodjackI handled a M70wssmFW some days ago.
I put dumy rounds through it. Stack the mag, fed it fast, slow and everything in between,
and guees what? no hitches....in fact I was very surprised(very impressed)n'appy

to see how slick it really was.
I Am becoming fond of them, and they handle and carry like a dream.
I dont mind 25wssm, considering .308wssm.
A man told me had a WSSM action done in 500sw.
Said it performance on hogs was... convincing.

boom stickthe supershort 284 makes more sense than the steyr with its .470 boltface...
30 wssm....hmmmm...

Oooh, neat, looks like it would make a fun whitetail round.
Question; how much powder real-estate does that bullet take up?
